Did someone mention re-establishing pre-apprenticeships pathway’s over the weekend?! Great to see West Midlands Combined Authority’s Path2Apprenticeship starting to be adopted by employers across the region, providing a progression route into good apprenticeship jobs for young adults. Over the training period young adults develop literacy, numeracy, digital, green skills and occupational specific training aligned to the apprenticeship. Right at the start of developing Path2 as a pilot we spoke to young people alongside Movement to Work, Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and Accenture to better understand what they felt they needed. Three takeaways at that point was a) training had to lead to an actual job b) make it easy to access and c) value us and incentivise. Fast forward 12 months: A - a young adult can only start a Path2Apprenticeship if a good apprenticeship job is linked to it B - Funding in place for 3,300 places over the next three years (likely to scale based on success) C - doesn’t impact benefits to attend the training that could last up to 12 weeks; bursary to be trialled later this summer. So many reasons we need to back young people but with more people leaving the labour market than joining it, how will we make those productivity and growth gains without backing our future.

"We had apprehensions about recruiting apprentices, however our fears were alleviated when we saw the calibre of applicants. Our apprentice has changed the dynamic within our team and, with a refreshing attitude has brought new life and upbeat energy to the team" — NHS Lanarkshire Similar to many organisations, NHS Lanarkshire faced challenges in filling roles that required "experience" and was hesitant about using apprenticeships for these positions. However, we have successfully assisted them in creating a successful future talent pipeline through our apprenticeship programmes while also helping several NHS boards improve their workforce skills in data and IT. "Apprenticeships take up too much time" "We need someone with experience." "Apprenticeships aren’t a good fit for our business." "Everyone in our organisation is already experienced, there’s no requirement for upskilling" These concerns are common, but could they be holding you and your organisation back?

Receiving exam results is daunting enough and then add on top of that the pressure of navigating the future and what options are out there, it truly is a nerve wracking time for young people. It is very unique for someone to have a linear career path but changing your plans does not mean you are any less successful. We are delighted to share Nikki's incredible Modern Apprenticeship success story which has led her to where she is today. After leaving school, Nikki was at Borders College studying Health Care and Social Services HNC. She completed this course but did not want to take it any further in her career, so she thought by doing an apprenticeship this would allow her to gain another qualification while earning. Nikki completed her Business & Administration Modern Apprenticeship with Rewards Training in 2019, whilst working at Bangholm Medical Centre, and has since received continuous promotions to Coder, Reception Supervisor, and now Assistant Practice Manager. When asked what Nikki would say to someone considering an apprenticeship, she said: "Go for it! You will have no regrets. I wish I had done the apprenticeship sooner. I could not have done this without Rewards Training." We're here if any young people, advisers, parents or mentors need support or want to have a chat about Modern Apprenticeships so please reach out to us at https://lnkd.in/gcgazAP #NoWrongPath #ModernApprenticeship #apprenticeships #ResultsDay2024 #resultsday #scotlandresultsday #ScottishResultsday #workbasedlearning #careerprogression #professionaldevelopment DYW Scotland
