Amazon Web Services (AWS) has unveiled plans for next-generation data centres optimised for AI workloads, featuring direct-to-chip liquid cooling and redesigned power systems that will deliver 12% more compute power per site. The cloud provider has also revealed its first-ever PUE metrics, with its global fleet achieving 1.15 in 2023. Its most efficient site reached 1.04, while new facilities will target 1.08. The announcement comes as data centres worldwide grapple with increased power demands from AI processors. AWS's new design includes a 46% reduction in cooling energy consumption and a 20% cut in power distribution failure points. "These data centre capabilities represent an important step forward with increased energy efficiency and flexible support for emerging workloads," says Prasad Kalyanaraman, AWS's infrastructure chief. #DataCentre #AI #Sustainability #AWS
