After attending the ITU’s Digital Skills Event held in Bahrain, I had the opportunity to network with attendees, hear insightful speakers, and engage in diverse panel discussions. It was inspiring to witness a genuine interest in helping others succeed. However, one key takeaway emerged - the need to address the conditioning present in early formal education to equip future generations with the necessary tools for success in a digitally-led world. While higher education and vocational training have made strides in bridging the digital skills gap, we must acknowledge that these solutions often treat symptoms rather than root causes. We find ourselves amidst a digital revolution, requiring an education system that nurtures creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving to foster individuality and innovation, compared to a schooling system built to mass-produce workers emphasizing uniformity and compliance as a direct result of the industrial revolution. As we anticipate new job opportunities emerging from the AI and digital revolution, we must also anticipate the repercussions of all things new. Adaptation is paramount, and our education approach must be designed to prepare students effectively for the challenges of the future. Let us reimagine curriculums and learning methods to empower students for the evolving digital landscape. In the words of Gil Scott-Heron, "The revolution will not be televised" - indeed, it will be digitalized... #DigitalSkills #EducationRevolution

During my days at the University of Nottingham, I had the privilege of engaging with a few event tech CTOs. It was challenging for them to pinpoint a single universal desire that every event tech company share, as goals/target markets/priorities varied. However, one common aspiration for many event tech companies was to achieve seamless integration and synergism among different technologies and platforms. Ideally, they would want their platforms to seamlessly integrate with other popular technologies, especially if they cover the entire event lifecycle. (~2017) Fast forward ~7 years, and it still is the number 1 wish/priority/concern. Integration challenges are particularly relevant in the context of event tech platforms. Is the complexity of technology ecosystems, varying standards, and competition among different platforms challenging achieving universal integration? Despite efforts to establish industry standards and open APIs, complete interoperability still remains a complex goal for many, especially smaller teams who find it challenging to allocate the necessary resources to tackle integration issues. I just had a catch-up with one of them after 7 years, and integration is still their number one concern! Turns out the struggle is timeless, and to quote him "Compatibility challenges are like that clingy ex who just won't let go." University of Nottingham Malaysia #eventprofs #eventtech #integrations

I find it most heartening that Minister Josephine Teo started her COS 2024 speech by citing the #smartnation vision of “a Singapore where people are more empowered to live meaningful and fulfilled lives, enabled seamlessly by technology, offering exciting opportunities for all.” To me, this is important for 2 reasons: 1. Philosophically, it directs us to pursue a form of success that everyone can participate in regardless of their station in life. This is because meaningful life ensues from engaging in activities that contribute towards a larger purpose beyond material achievements. 2. Practically, it guides us in applying technology to build solutions that will benefit everyone. In this case, centering on meaning can unlock the intrinsic human values to support a more balanced approach to achieving happiness, prosperity and progress. Her speech also jogged my memory about my reason for starting giving.sg a decade ago to nudge people to live meaningful lives through giving. The experience has affirmed my belief that micro actions can lead to macro change. I have no doubt that technological advances will continue to provide us with the means to build a better future together. The question is whether we are harnessing it for the benefit of all. #sgbudget2024 #forwardsg #techforpublicgood NCS Group SGTech Singapore Computer Society NUS-ISS Alumni Community NVPC - Towards a City of Good

AIducate: A Radical Shift in Education for the AI Era The rise of artificial intelligence is not just a technological revolution—it’s an educational one. As AI reshapes every aspect of our world, the way we educate our children must radically evolve to keep pace. The old paradigm of teaching reading, writing, and arithmetic alone is no longer enough. In this new era, our children need to master a critical fourth skill: prompting. AI tools, driven by complex algorithms, now have the potential to augment human intelligence, unlock creativity, and solve problems in ways we never thought possible. But to fully harness this power, children must learn how to communicate effectively with AI systems. It’s not just about writing essays anymore; it’s about crafting precise and insightful prompts that can guide AI to produce meaningful outputs. Let us AIducate—embrace this next frontier in education where children learn not only to read and write, but to read, write, and prompt. By doing so, we can leapfrog our children’s intelligence and aptitude, preparing them to thrive in a world where human-AI collaboration will be key to success. The time to act is now. Let us equip the next generation with the tools they need to lead in this AI-driven future.#AIducate Department of Education - Philippines Kaya Founders

Huawei Kenya has launched its second ICT Competition roadshow at Kenyatta University, targeting an ambitious 7,000 student registrations for its 2024-2025 competition. At the Kenyatta University event, Partnerships and Corporate Affairs Manager Michael Kamau emphasized the competition's role in shaping Kenya's digital future. The roadshow featured hands-on demonstrations and insights from past participants, with plans to visit other institutions, including Zetech University, Multimedia University, and Dedan Kimathi University, in the coming weeks. The expansion of Huawei's talent development program is indicative of the company's broader commitment to Kenya's digital transformation. Other initiatives, such as the Seeds for the Future and Smart Cities projects, complement the competition in positioning Kenya as an emerging regional technology hub and closing critical digital skills gaps. #DigitalSkills #ICTTalent #AfricanTech #DigitalTransformation
