A 100 years back, artificial intelligence was a thing of dreams. But living through a century means reflecting over the past. To imagine WOAH’s potential role in these animal health and welfare landscapes, stakeholders were involved in a Participatory Foresight Project (PFP) where participants used foresight methods to investigate opportunities and disruptions, encouraging discussions on complex issues and exploring possible scenarios impacting WOAH and Veterinary Services in the 21st century. In Singapore, veterinary telehealth is becoming the norm, and a set of professional guidelines for vets here has been launched to better safeguard animal welfare, health and safety. Animal welfare and data based indicators: So...we just finished the first meeting of SENSTARA group, with large part of the discussion focused on data for animal welfare. Here is my problem....her name is Codino, and I found here this morning bleeding, bullied by the rest of the flock to this point. By the book, it's not supposed to happened: If we take facility based measures most frequently used by national authorities- the situation is great! low density pasture based system. Ample resources, feed, resting and enviormental comfort... no need of competition! Even more refined standard animal based measures are good. She's not weaker, smaller or less productive then the others. Her browsing behaviour was in line with all the rest. And yet, here we are.....as Sky (Kehan) Sheng 盛可晗 defined it in a recent call with Daniel Foy, Welfare it's not the absent of inconvenience. It's the ability to detect and resolve the key factor in time. In this case, it's an example of the simple fact that the farmer is still the key link in any production system!

Consumers view technology as the most sensible way to solve major challenges in animal welfare. When presented with possible solutions to three commonly cited animal welfare challenges, technology was cited as the best solution, over government bans, and shifts in consumer behavior. Technology has the remarkable power to eliminate tradeoffs. Instead of asking businesses to sacrifice their profitability, or asking consumers to forgo culturally important foods, it changes the type of food system that is possible. Technologies, like in-ovo sexing, can improve our animal rearing, while opening up new opportunities for producers.
