Yesterday's #CyberBlueConMeetup closed out the year with a panel on "2024 Cyber Oops Moments: Lessons from the Frontlines" Reality check: AI isn't perfect in security (shocker!) - we still need the human touch. And apparently, everything still comes down to lawyers... 😅 Holiday wishes from the panel? Let's end SQL injection, no more "password123", and please stop letting strangers tailgate into the building! But some good news out of 2024: 🔷 Cyber isn't just "IT's problem" anymore 🔷 Passkeys are finally catching on 🔷 Everyone's talking about scams (thanks, news media!) 🔷 Companies are getting better at bouncing back from ransomware Huge thanks to the amazing panellists Lloyd Simon of Tanto Security, Claire C. of Bluerydge, Daisy Wong of Medibank, and Harris Wassylko of KPMG, expertly moderated by Joanna Dalton of REA Group, and a massive thanks to Sammy Chuks.. of Sekuro for his endless enthusiasm in making these events happen!

Cybercrime affects us all as individuals and society as a whole. On the one hand, new technologies have made many aspects of our lives easier, from social interactions to banking, shopping and more. On the other hand, our increasing reliance on the Internet has created more risks and opened new paths for criminal activity. Cybercriminals are constantly finding new ways to circumvent the latest defensive tools and technologies, landing themselves in the inboxes and browsers of me and you. In 2021 alone, 85% of data breaches involved the human element, with 94% of malware delivered via email. -Be safe #YouMaybeNext #cybercrime #cyberawareness

SMS One-Time-Passcodes remain among the weakest links in our cybersecurity, just behind our own inherent fallibility as humans. Alternatives such as silent network authentication avoid the necessity to send out SMS One Time Passcodes to authenticate a user's identity when logging in, confirming a purchase or onboarding, meaning there's nothing for criminals to target and less likelihood of your customers falling victim to fraud. To find out more about using silent authentication for your customers and to request a demo, contact our fraud specialists today: https://hubs.ly/Q02TXc190? The Cybernews team said, “Attackers can utilize the ten-billion-strong RockYou2024 compilation to target any system that isn’t protected against brute-force attacks. This includes everything from online and offline services to internet-facing cameras and industrial hardware. Moreover, combined with other leaked databases on hacker forums and marketplaces, which, for example, contain user email addresses and other credentials, RockYou2024 can contribute to a cascade of data breaches, financial frauds, and identity thefts.” #breach #identity #identitytheft #passwords #fraud #scams https://lnkd.in/gVmh9B7R

👾 LockBit bungles attempt to rebrand as DarkVault 👾 LockBit's attempt to rebrand as DarkVault hit a snag when security researcher Dominic Alvieri spotted unmistakable similarities between the two entities' designs. Despite efforts to conceal these flaws, DarkVault's emergence revealed a troubling continuation of LockBit's illicit activities. DarkVault's facade as a community dedicated to technology and security belies its true nature. Founders 'Neroces' and 'criminaldo' hint at a range of illegal services. Particularly concerning are the BlackHat Services advertised on the site, which offer a catalogue of criminal activities for profit. The rise of DarkVault coincides with tensions in the ransomware landscape, where groups like LockBit and ALPHV vie for dominance. Despite law enforcement actions, these syndicates persist, wreaking havoc on victims worldwide. DarkVault's saga is a stark reminder of the ongoing battle against cybercrime. Amidst the allure of anonymity, vigilance remains paramount in safeguarding against the threats posed by entities like LockBit and its successors. Hiring the right talent is the best way to protect your organisation.
