The recent Dell incident highlights critical vulnerabilities that could ripple through the supply chain. If hackers access hardware and shipping details, they could manipulate or intercept deliveries, inserting compromised components that pose security risks to downstream systems. We need robust security protocols at all levels of supply chain management, emphasizing the need for continuous vigilance and updates in security measures to protect against such sophisticated threats. Let us not forget the 2018 incident with supermicros. Stay vigilant, folks! #CyberSecurity #SupplyChainManagement #RiskManagement #SCRM https://lnkd.in/gUu5uuEX

Dell API abused to steal 49 million customer records in data breach The threat actor behind the recent Dell data breach revealed they scraped information of 49 million customer records using an partner portal API they accessed as a fake company. BleepingComputer reported that Dell had begun to send notifications warning customers that their personal data was stolen in a data breach. Increased API vulnerabilities are putting companies at risk! Recent breaches involving Facebook, Twitter, and Trello highlight a critical oversight in API security. While all of these incidents involved scraping of data, they were allowed due to the ease of access to APIs and the lack of proper rate limiting for the number of requests that can be made per second from the same host. #CyberSecurity #DataBreach #APIs #DigitalSecurity #TechNews

Computing giant Dell has confirmed it is investigating a data breach which the company says saw some personal information related to customers accessed. The company did not confirm if the incident was caused by an inadvertent error or had been breached by hackers, but according to reports, an individual has tried to sell data they claim to have accessed in a breach of Dell via an online forum, claiming they accessed the details of 49 million people across several countries. There is no company that is too big, or too small to be victimized by a #cyberattack. The question is, "when will it happen?" and "is my team prepared to deal with the aftermath?" In the aftermath of the Dell #dataleak Dell believes the risk to its customers is not significant since financial and payment information, email addresses, and phone numbers were not stolen in this attack. However, the risk of #phishing or even major #malware and #ransomware attacks still exists. The threat actors might try sending personalized letters with infected drives, a tactic seen before. The hacker (Menelik) sent more than 5,000 requests per minute to the page for nearly 3 weeks, and Dell did not notice anything. After sending nearly 50 million requests and scraping enough data, Menelik sent multiple emails to Dell, notifying the company of the vulnerability. It took Dell nearly a week to patch it all up, according to the hacker. Dell confirmed to TechCrunch that they received the hacker’s email notification of the #vulnerability. If you’re a Dell customer who bought hardware between 2017 and 2024, be very careful about any messages you get in the mail claiming to be from Dell, especially if they ask for #personalinformation.
