On Wednesday, May 29 Chipsalz was added to the long list of victims of a security breach. This is being written to inform AND warn you. PLEASE NOTE...Chipsalz does not operate using any type of cash app, including PayPal, Zelle or Venmo for payment transactions. We will never contact you casually with new bank information. IF YOU RECEIVED ANY EMAIL FROM CHIPSALZ GIVING YOU ANY CHANGE OF PAYMENT INSTRUCTIONS, THAT IS A FRAUDLENT EMAIL - even if it came from a legitimate or familiar email address. IN FACT, if you do not have a process that requires verbal authorization of the detailed new bank information, we strongly urge you to start that now. NEVER EVER accept bank information from an email only. You must also consider AI having the ability to record voices; it's only a matter of time before the phone will no longer be reliable either. Chipsalz is a small family business. We operate everything above board (we like to sleep at night). Our employees are our most precious resource and this event could have been crippling to our company and the people who make a living with us. Vigilance is a team effort and we are BEYOND GRATEFUL to each of our customers that took immediate action. This action has already saved us thousands. PLEASE be on guard. Fool proof systems are only good for the moment they are implemented. We must extend this vigilance to be cautious with every email and following up verbally, especially when the transfer of money is the subject.

The recent incident involving the World-Check database, as reported by Connor Jones from The Register, shows the persistent threats in our digital world via Third Parties. World-Check, a crucial resource used globally by financial institutions for Know Your Customer (KYC) checks, was compromised, exposing millions to potential misuse of their personal data. This breach, attributed to the cybercriminal group GhostR, did not originate within the London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG) systems but rather through a third-party vulnerability. It’s a constant reminder of the cascading effects that the security of an organization's partners can have on broader data protection strategies. World-Check's role in aggregating data on individuals deemed high-risk—like suspected money launderers and terrorists—makes it a goldmine for misuse if fallen into the wrong hands. The leakage of such data challenges the integrity of global financial systems designed to combat illicit activities. It is crucial to reassess our systems and those of our third-party partners. Robust encryption, rigorous access controls, and continuous monitoring are foundational. Moreover, as this incident shows, quick and transparent communication with affected parties and regulatory bodies is essential in managing the fallout effectively and restoring trust. #thirdpartysecurity #tprm #digitaltrust #dtef #supplychainriskmanagement https://lnkd.in/ebyF5mYy

Financial fraud is becoming more sophisticated and harder to detect. To start, here are three simple rules to help you protect yourself when encounter a scam: 1.Slow down: Scammers often try to create a sense of urgency or threaten you with losing your account or other action. Take time to ask questions and think it through. 2.Spot check: Scammers often mention a problem to encourage you to act. Do your research to double check the details before clicking links or downloading files. Does what they’re telling you make sense? 3.Don’t send: Scammers often pretend to be from a familiar organization, they may use its employee photo they stole from the internet to convince you. No reputable organization will demand payment on the spot.
