Telcos needing to pivot to becoming techcos, is not a new idea Sebastian Barros admits, but this time, telcos have to compete with the likes of Google, NVIDIA, Alibaba, and more, while having to stem the downward spiral in telco valuations. Sebastian thinks the way forward is clear and outlines it in his opinion piece. #cxpose.tech #telcos #valuations #techcos https://lnkd.in/g-uZbybM

#Docomo and #NEC will need to turn those field trials into commercial deployments, and add more telco names to the list of interested parties if it is to be a long-term player in the Open RAN market which, according to forecasts from analyst house Dell'Oro Group, could be worth between $2.45bn to $3.5bn this year and between $7bn and $10.5bn in 2028 https://lnkd.in/gBJKAHMD via TelecomTV #openRAN

Ya think 🧐 🤡 Why? Who’s to blame? Well, Twilio is! How? Actually, Jim Cramer is because he convinced the world that Twilio was worth $80 billion when it's only worth the cash in the bank that it has from trusting investors who gave it to them. FOMO built up and just killed #CPaaS, or as Wall Street calls it now, the #CScam industry. Ericsson you could have waited and bought #Twilio, #Syniverse, #Sinch, #Infobip, and yes, even tyntec (but not Thorsten Trapp patents) 😳for less than what you threw away on Vonage Now sell the best asset in industry iconectiv and take the money and buy those companies! iconectiv kicks off more cash then all of them combined! While the article presents Ericsson maturity around understanding of the mistakes done with investing in Cradlepoint 4 years ago, which can make one to think about Ericsson investment in Vonage, and how "right" it was too, the focus in the article is on how Ericsson had realized to integrate Cradlepoint into Ericsson..or wass it the opposite....to find a Solution now to address the Private 5G Market with a Solution/Platform (quote):"a platform that is wireless, infra(structure)-less, and cellular-first.", and nothing, not even a single word or Reference to the 3GPP specified in the 1st 5G Advanced Release (approved for Production/ Market Deployment in June 2024) standard specified Solution specifications about NPNs/SNPNs (Non-Public Network/Stand-alone NPNs), that are 3GPP standard specified for 5G as "equivalent", enabling an access to one (1) NPN (Private Network) to access the others without the need for new registration (enabling Inter-operability between the Private Networks), very much like the same Feature/Functionality that the current MNOs PLMNs use and also access to Non-3GPP Access (as Wi-Fi & Bluetooth)...Probably, Ericsson Management plans to that in the Future when they learn from the accumulated experience from Cradlepoint and Vonage...and prepare a new Plan...hopefully..

This is a fantastic article from Andrew Wooden and Telecoms.com talking about how the failure to monetise 5G is the major issue in the telecoms industry. I totally agree with most of what’s in here, until MNOs can justify the investment in networks we wont see networks capable of delivering the speeds and coverage we expect. The point made by Alok Shah is also very interesting – where will the value creation be and who will benefit from it? Previously it wasn’t the MNOs but handset manufactures and companies like Uber that created applications that benefited from the networks, not the owners of the networks themselves. #connectivity #networks #change #investment #innovation #mnos #2g #3g #4g #5g #business #enterprise #growth #mobile #mobilenetworks #telecoms #monetisation https://lnkd.in/e9qf3Gzg

Some thoughts on this announcement: The (very) recent announcement from leading Telcos to form a global venture to develop and monetise network APIs proves that Telcos still can lead in connectivity and technological innovation. A few first reflections on the announcement: 1- Scale matters a lot. The sum of global Telco is similar to Big Tech (trillion dollar revenues for both), but Telcos are fragmented in local markets and so is their R&D. This alliance seems to go in the direction of achieving that global scale (pulling in talent, standardisation, access) 2- Developing unified (and standardised) network API products (the foundational underlay) can unlock many applications on top (the advanced overlay). For the global use cases, the alliance can be at the center of partnerships with other businesses that develop these innovative products. For local use cases, Telcos can be themselves the leading player leveraging this global know how. 3- There seems to be a two fold monetization opportunity. On the underlay, leveraging partnerships (like this “horizontal” global Telco partnership for scale), Telcos can rely on their current set up to add additional revenue streams. On the overlay, there seems to be a new growth opportunity on the more local use cases. For Telcos to capture this new opportunity they need to think of the correct set up (local R&D, “vertical” partnerships relying on the global use cases but putting the Telco at the front end, and thinking of the correct go to market). Likely, this will need investments and a different P&L logic (as this is a growth business based on innovation) 4- I think the above highlights again the need to have healthy ROIC on the core business, so that Telcos can reinvest in new ventures and technology and (critically for many stakeholders) be at the center of local investment in innovation Exiting times ahead for the industry! The key to successful government partnerships? It’s all about aligning with mission-driven solutions. In my experience working with T-Mobile and partners like Red River, Iron Bow, and WWT, I've learned that delivering value to government clients isn’t just about selling products. It’s about understanding their unique challenges—whether that’s secure connectivity, scalable infrastructure, or compliance requirements—and finding solutions that truly support their goals. For example, a recent project demonstrated how T-Mobile’s 5G capabilities, when combined with the right partner technology, provided a seamless solution for federal clients. The result? Improved connectivity, cost savings, and a stronger, mission-focused solution. Building these connections takes time, trust, and collaboration. Every success reinforces that a client-centric approach is the foundation of any lasting partnership. What’s been the most valuable lesson you’ve learned in building government or enterprise partnerships? I’d love to hear your insights! #GovernmentPartnerships #5GInnovation #TechForGood #ClientFocused #TMobile https://lnkd.in/eT4s8bW5
