A recent article from Cannabis Business Times discusses a proposed amendment to the 2024 Farm Bill that could significantly impact the hemp-derived cannabinoid industry. The amendment aims to change the definition of hemp, potentially devastating the market for products like THCA seed and flower. If passed, this change could end the sale of many hemp-derived cannabinoids, posing a serious threat to businesses and consumers who rely on these products. At CV Sciences, we are deeply concerned about the implications of this amendment. We remain committed to advocating for a fair and supportive regulatory environment that recognizes the benefits of hemp-derived cannabinoids. Our focus continues to be on providing high-quality, safe, and effective products while supporting the industry's growth and innovation through active engagement in policy discussions and industry standards. Last week marked a critical moment for the hemp industry. The House Agriculture Hearing introduced Amendment 35 to the 2024 Farm Bill, posing a severe threat to the entire American Hemp Industry. Proposed by Mary Miller of Illinois, this amendment would drastically limit hemp THC content and exclude certain hemp-derived cannabinoid products. The language proposed is similar to that of the mainstream cannabis advocacy group, the United States Cannabis Council. Their influence on this damaging amendment is troubling and puts the entire future of the hemp industry at risk. The consequences could be catastrophic for hemp farmers, the CBD market, and the entire cannabinoid industry If enacted, it would devastate the American hemp industry. Creating unregulated and far less safe alternatives. Such a devastating blow to this fledgling industry will not only ruin farmers but also eliminate the thousands upon thousands of jobs it supports. This harmful amendment threatens to dismantle an industry that is just beginning to thrive, jeopardizing both livelihoods and safety. History of Delta-8 THC discovery and research timeline: 1941: Delta-8 THC was first discovered through a partial synthesis process, allowing scientists to isolate the compound. Roger Adams at the University of Illinois is credited with possessing the first pure delta-8 compound, according to historical records. 1974: Researchers used a trio of cannabinoids on mice, including Delta-9 THC, Delta-8 THC, and CBD, to study the effects of THC. The National Cancer Institute conducted this study to prove that THC harmed the immune system, but instead, they discovered that Delta-8 THC possessed cancer-killing abilities. 1975: More research using rats, found that Delta-8 THC could also shrink tumors. This study discovered that Lewis lung adenocarcinoma growth was decreased by an oral administration of specific cannabinoids, including Delta-9 THC, Delta-8 THC, and CBN (Cannabinol). Key Takeaways: Delta-8 THC was first discovered in 1941 through a partial synthesis process. The compound was further studied in the 1970s, with researchers discovering its potential cancer-killing abilities and ability to shrink tumors.

The proposed Amendment 35 to the 2024 Farm Bill is indeed a critical and alarming development for the hemp industry. This amendment, introduced by Mary Miller, poses a severe threat by drastically limiting hemp THC content and excluding certain hemp-derived cannabinoid products. It risks devastating the American hemp industry, pushing it towards unregulated and less safe alternatives. This would not only harm farmers but also eliminate the thousands of jobs that the industry supports. We must take a stand against this harmful amendment to protect the livelihoods and safety of those involved in the hemp industry. Under one proposed amendment, filed Wednesday ahead of a key hearing today, “all ingestible hemp products with any level of THC” would be federally banned, warned the U.S. Hemp Roundtable, a Washington, D.C.-based lobbying group. “By federally banning all ingestible hemp products with any quantifiable level of THC, the Mary Miller Amendment would result in federal prohibition of 90-95% of all hemp products on the market, even a large majority of popular, non-intoxicating CBD products that naturally contain trace, non-intoxicating amounts of THC in them,” he said. “The redefinition of hemp to include a calculation of THC-A would wreak havoc in the fiber and grain markets … killing tens of thousands of agriculture and retail jobs, and denying access to popular products that Americans count on for their health and wellness. #hemp #hempregulations #cbd #cbdproducts #farmbill #thclevels https://lnkd.in/gFJ8pWva

🚨Farm Bill Alert 🚨 The hemp industry has shown remarkable potential as a sustainable and economically viable agricultural sector. It provides numerous benefits, from environmentally friendly farming practices to the production of a wide range of products, including health supplements, textiles, and biofuels. The industry supports small farmers and entrepreneurs, fostering economic growth and job creation in rural communities. The Miller Amendment, backed by interests seeking to monopolize the cannabis industry, threatens to dismantle these achievements. By advocating for stringent restrictions, these monopolistic entities aim to eliminate competition and secure their dominance in the cannabis market. This is not only anti-competitive but also anti-consumer, reducing access to a diverse array of safe, hemp-derived products. URGENT ‼️ Please call your federal lawmakers today and let them know that you support hemp. Tell them to “Vote No” to the Miller Amendment and to retain the current definition of hemp. #hemp #cannabis #sustainablefarming #farmbill

Governor Kim Reynolds, along with 16 other Republican governors, recently called on Congress to reauthorize an updated Farm Bill, citing the challenges facing agriculture—rising costs, regulatory uncertainty, and supply chain disruptions. This is a pivotal moment for consumable hemp. While the Farm Bill traditionally supports agriculture, it also defines the framework for hemp production, processing, and its inclusion in consumable products. However, uncertainty remains around updates that could affect THC limits, compliance standards, and market expansion for hemp-derived cannabinoids. What insights or updates have you heard regarding consumable hemp in the upcoming Farm Bill? Our industry thrives on collaboration, so I’d love to hear your thoughts: 1-Are there changes in policy or language that would support or challenge consumable hemp? 2-How might these updates influence compliance, innovation, or consumer access? Mace Amendment: Positive Momentum for Hemp Industry! Good Afternoon, At MC Nutraceuticals, we are thrilled to announce groundbreaking legislative developments related to the Mace Amendment for the hemp industry. We have summarized this significant news below but encourage you to read the Forbes article written by Bob Hoban for more comprehensive insights. After the impact of the May 2024 "Miller Amendment", which aimed to redefine legal hemp to only include non-intoxicating cannabinoids derived naturally from the cannabis plant, there was a surge in legislative and lobbying activity as the restrictions posed a threat to the entire American Hemp Industry. Promising developments in the House Committee on Rules regarding the Agriculture Appropriations Act, 2025, have shown that prominent Congressional members, including Representatives Nancy Mace, Morgan McGarvey, James Comer, Thomas Massie, Andy Barr, and Mark Pocan, have taken a strong stance in support of the hemp industry. This bipartisan effort focuses on protecting the rights granted by the 2014 and 2018 Farm Bills, which have been pivotal for farmers and small businesses alike. Notably, Rep. Morgan McGarvey has introduced amendments designed to strike language limiting the production of hemp products and to affirm states' rights to regulate hemp. This has received ample support, signaling a positive shift towards safeguarding our industry. As we move towards finalizing the 2024 Farm Bill, expected by the end of this year or beginning of 2025, it's crucial for us to stay engaged. The Appropriations Bill, which includes key provisions for our industry, is set to be finalized before October 1, 2024. Let’s continue to support regulated hemp and reach out to our elected officials to ensure they understand the importance of maintaining a thriving industry! https://lnkd.in/g6M35v6x

6moIt appears that the industry is moving backwards instead of being more progressive! Legislators MUST separate the CBD Markets from the THC markets. Then pass both as legal!
