Scientists from the Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center have developed an AI blood test that accurately identifies lung cancer. This new blood test could improve screening and reduce death rates by identifying high-risk patients who would benefit from follow-up CT scans, according to the team’s computer modelling. A study published by the National Cancer Institute suggests that regular surveillance of people at high risk for pancreatic cancer—using MRI scans and other imaging techniques—can detect the disease at an earlier stage, improving survival rates. Those diagnosed through surveillance programs were found to have a significantly higher 5-year survival rate compared to those diagnosed without such monitoring. However, the approach involves potential risks like false positives and psychological distress, and more research is needed to refine the screening process. #pancreaticcancer #survivalrates #earlydetection
