India is making rapid strides toward E-Mobility. The Government of India and the Ministry of Heavy Industries have implemented a range of reforms in the E-Mobility sector. As a result, electric vehicle sales surged significantly from 2,334 units in 2014 to 16.75 lakh in 2024, reflecting the rising demand. Through the promotion of electric vehicles, the Ministry of Heavy Industries is leading a silent revolution towards India’s Net Zero vision by 2070. The EV market in India has seen significant growth with brands like Tata, Hyundai, and MG embracing the change. Currently, there are 12 lakh EVs in the country, projected to reach 40 lakh by year-end and potentially crossing three crores in the next two years. As the automotive industry transitions to electric vehicles, it is crucial to prepare for potential future shortages of raw materials and ensure the recycling of discarded batteries, which often contain substances that are difficult to process. By 2030-2040, the world will reach the peak of the electric revolution and may face a market crisis if raw materials and new technology are not sufficiently available. Environmentalists have highlighted the impacts of large-scale mining and the threat of e-waste from the electric vehicle revolution.
