HIGH AND LOW TIDE CAUSE LOW AND HIGH METHANE FLUXES Methane, a strong greenhouse gas that naturally escapes from the bottom of the North Sea, is affected by the pressure of high or low tide. Methane emissions from the seafloor can be just easily three times as much or as little, depending on the tide. https://lnkd.in/eEHuMy5X

REVEALED: the UK's methane hotspots! Unless the data compiled and modelled by the government is bilge. Which it very well may be. Read on: https://lnkd.in/eWYMFPha I've mapped the hotspots on the Watershed Pollution Map 2/2. This week starts with Global Methane Forum and ends with World Water Day. What's the connection? Better managed water will be a pillar to our hopes to slow emissions of the most potent greenhouse gas. Check out our recent article from the Water Initiative for Net Zero to learn how. https://lnkd.in/eYJWPCjD

This study looks like a much needed improvement in our understanding of methane emissions from landfills. The stink compounds of landfills make up a tiny fraction of the gases being emitted (<10%), with the vast majority (~90%) being the climate-altering gases CO2 and CH4, both of which are odorless. It's no surprise that vacuum-based methane collection systems on massive landfills are hardly able to prevent leaks to the atmosphere. https://lnkd.in/dH28ffrV

Every year, Americans throw over 250 million metric tons of garbage into landfills where, over time, methane is generated as a bioproduct of the decomposition process. Over a 20-year horizon, every pound of methane emitted has 80 times the heat-trapping power of the same amount of carbon dioxide, the reference gas for global warming. Instead of flaring the biogas that is ultimately generated by society, there is great environmental value in capturing it and reusing it as an energy substitute, displacing fossil fuel. This is why our work at landfills such as Brickyard is so important and rewarding! Check out Bloomberg to learn more! https://lnkd.in/eEXP-SKs

The main sources of greenhouse gas emissions are: Fossil fuels: Burning coal, oil, and natural gas for energy is the largest contributor to climate change, accounting for over 75% of global emissions. Agriculture: Livestock, rice cultivation, and biomass burning are all sources of methane emissions. Land use: Changes to land use have contributed to the increase in greenhouse gases.#sydneyinteriordesigner #perthinteriordesign #brisbaneinteriordesigner #adelaideinteriordesigner #interiordesign #australiandesign#australianarchitecture #flooringinspiration#designtrends #sustainability #sustainabilitymatters #circulardesign#circulareconomy #sustainabledesign #australianinteriors
