Awareness & Access -> Connecting Students and Professionals of Color - students of color learning about opportunities at STEM and Life Science companies in CT - students connecting with professionals of color at those companies - professionals connecting with each other - professionals mentoring students - everyone engaging in conversations about barriers commonly faced by persons of color, first generation, non-native speakers SCSU BioPath and the SCSU Innovation Hub is driven by... 2 questions: what do companies need and how can we help students? 4 areas of focus: Awareness Experiences (classroom and beyond) Skills ("soft" and technical) Access That's how we make a difference for students, companies, and their respective communities Over 130 job/internships placements in STEM since 2021, 35% of those identify as persons of color We are moving in right direction and making a difference Thanks to CTNext and the Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development, and Southern Connecticut State University for their foundational support! Shout-out to Ramón N. Nguema, Southern Connecticut State University student featured in the news highlight! Innovation Hub team and our friends at Pfizer and Boehringer Ingelheim - making it happen! In San Diego this week for the Neuro-Inspired Computational Elements (NICE) conference. We're presenting a paper and a tutorial: - 𝐒𝐐𝐔𝐀𝐓: 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐐𝐮𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐳𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧-𝐀𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐟 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐒𝐩𝐢𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐍𝐞𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐍𝐞𝐭𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬 led by Sreyes Venkatesh (my first undergrad student at UCSC who has since graduated 🥲). We show how to train SNNs at extremely low bit-widths (across states and weights). It turns out that allocating more quantization levels near the firing threshold will also boost performance, and we've thrown this feature into snnTorch. - A tutorial on the 𝐍𝐞𝐮𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐩𝐡𝐢𝐜 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 where Bernhard Vogginger and I will show you how to port between SNN model libraries using the work led by Jens Egholm Pedersen and Steven Abreu at the 2023 Telluride Neuromorphic Engineering Workshop feat. hardware deployment demos (aka live debugging sessions).

Our libraries and library systems are vital institutions of foundational and lifelong learning. They are dynamic hubs that democratize access to art, education, and essential resources while anchoring communities as free and open spaces for all people. Libraries serve as bastions of intellectual freedom and a refuge for all people, regardless of wealth or background, in a time where those qualities are needed most. With a changing federal landscape and future funding for the Institute of Museum and Library Services uncertain, we need you to tell Governor Hochul increased funding is imperative to ensuring libraries continue to serve as an indispensable resource for education, culture, and community.
