Great news! The organizing committee of the American Physical Society (APS) has accepted a proposal to hold a one-day mini-conference on Digital Twins for fusion research. The gist of the conference is briefly summarized: “Historically, the computational cost in time to solution, limitations with interoperability and scale for conventional science models such as MHD or particle in cell models for the fusion energy problem was too great to be used as part of an engineering design or control system. Recently, there have been significant advances in machine learning, which when utilizing high-speed parallel computing, has resulted in surrogate models and advanced control models that offer high physics fidelity and high speed. This combination has led recently to the exploration of Digital Twins to support fusion research. But the advances come with their own challenges and the objective of this mini conference will be to stimulate discussion and share ideas that can increase the pace of science discovery.”. 📣 How IMAGINE will push technology transfer? 📋 This WP will develop pipelines and procedures to bring new scientific instrumentation developed in WP1 to WP5 more rapidly to market taking advantage of their fast validation in broad user communities by the service providers. It will set up the key processes needed to enable effective technology transfer from academia to industry, thus reducing the gap between early-stage technology invention and product development and maximising the socio-economic impact of the IMAGINE project. 🤝 The work package is led by EMBL Enterprise Management Technology Transfer GmbH (EMBLEM) as the commercial arm and technology transfer office of EMBL. 🔬 New EHAWEDRY research reveals the unique ion-separation properties of nanoporous polyimide films with charged surfaces! Traditional methods focus on streaming potential, but this study highlights the significant role of concentration gradients in dilute solutions, challenging common assumptions. The findings introduce a more accurate way to measure electrokinetic properties, opening doors to innovative applications for nanoporous films.
