Today is International Anti-Corruption Day 2024 Corruption continues to be a major obstacle to development, equity, and justice across the world. As we mark this day, Ghana stands at the dawn of a new era with the election of a new government. This is a pivotal moment to reaffirm our collective commitment to integrity, accountability, and transparency. Corruption is not just about bribes or embezzlement—it undermines the very fabric of our society, depriving citizens of basic services, distorting economic opportunities, and eroding trust in leadership. It is a call to action for all of us: leaders, institutions, and citizens alike. To the newly elected government, we challenge you to be the embodiment of good governance, to honor your mandate with integrity, and to work tirelessly for the betterment of every Ghanaian. Let today be a reminder that true leadership is built on the pillars of honesty and service. And to my fellow citizens: the fight against corruption is not for governments alone. It begins with us—in our workplaces, communities, and everyday choices. Together, we can build a Ghana where accountability is the norm and prosperity is shared by all. Let us unite against corruption and build a brighter, fairer future. #AntiCorruptionDay #Integrity #GhanaFightsCorruption #NewDawnForGhana

Transparency International's 2023 Corruption Perceptions Index paints a concerning picture for South Africa. With a score of 41, the country has reached its lowest ranking ever, highlighting a worrying trend as it fell into the category of “flawed democracies”. Corruption diverts resources from essential services, deepens inequality, and traps communities in poverty. The newly formed GNU has an opportunity to turn the tide. My op-ed (https://lnkd.in/duZebkqw) with Dr Ugljesa Radulovic explores how the GNU can prioritise whistleblower empowerment and strengthen the fight against corruption. Through them, we edge closer to transparency, accountability, and social development for a brighter future for all South Africans. Tshepo Magagane Now, those with apartheid-era nostalgia and racist inclinations will likely use these scandals as strong arguments in their favour. Public Procurement in Africa has led to immense wealth accumulation, with instances of individuals owning extravagant possessions like multiple Ferraris and lavish mansions. The recent investigations in South Africa have unearthed corruption allegations amounting to over $7 billion, implicating major companies such as Transnet, Denel, and Eskom. The impact of these scandals on the economy is evident, causing blackouts and significant financial losses. The lack of accountability in these cases emphasizes the critical need for transparency and governance reform in South Africa. #Corruption #Transparency #SouthAfrica

The new act aims to streamline procurement and reduce corruption. The recently signed Public Procurement Act is a major step forward in reducing bureaucratic delays and curbing corruption in South Africa's public procurement system. The act consolidates existing regulations, introduces standardised procedures, and prioritises local production, ensuring that taxpayer money is used effectively and responsibly. Key benefits include: ✔️Reduced bureaucratic delays ✔️Increased transparency ✔️Curbed corruption ✔️Prioritisation of local production ✔️Improved opportunities for small businesses and historically disadvantaged groups Companies doing business directly or indirectly with a government state department need to secure a transparent transformation plan starting with complying with the Employment Equity Act. and a valid B-BBEE certificate. This will help your company to comply during the procurement process. #PublicProcurementAct #Corruption #Transparency #EconomicTransformation #SouthAfrica
