There is a new episode of The Little Questions podcast coming this Wednesday, 1 May. On this week's episode, Apella partners Matt Young and Andrew Brown are looking at Brand and Reputation - and asking the question, are these two sides of the same coin? "The brand is our promise, our reputation is how well we live up to it. Or not." Is that really the case? Is it that binary? Isn’t branding all about design and badges – the colours and shapes we can and cannot use as defined by the infamous brand police? Oh, and the odd expensive ad campaign or three? Isn’t influencing and curating the firm’s reputation what we comms and corporate affairs people do? You can listen to a little teaser below, and keep an eye out for Wednesday's release to hear more. As always, you can get in touch by contacting [email protected] - we love hearing from you. #brand #reputation #communications

Startups tend to differentiate in the same ways around price, performance, and scale. I asked Bill Chiaravalle how they should go about it. His simple answer - "Be different." But that is very scary - being radically different from competitors might turn away prospects. It's a huge risk. But it has potentially vast rewards. So how do you start? With brand positioning - then you can differentiate in a coherent way that makes sense to prospects who are craving something different in the market. This is so often overlooked by technical companies trying to solve a specific problem. It's an afterthought. But if you look at the history of successful startups - like Salesforce with it's No Software campaign (which at the time was radically different - what, nothing on-prem?), you can see it pays off. Loved this latest episode of FiredUp! with Bill Chiaravalle who is the founder of Brand Navigation.

Engaging Audiences What can business leaders learn from Pixar and Disney? Simple: prioritize emotional connection and make every interaction with your brand an experience. At Disney, we never started with the sale; we began with magic – that feeling of wonder and curiosity. Whether watching a movie or buying a product, people want to be moved, inspired, or delighted. Here are some ways to do this: • See your audience as a community. • Make room for mystery and discovery. • Focus on values that resonate. Let's ask what our recent 1seventh (the podcast) guests Alison Ashley Tawny Lara and Adam Gross think. Transforming your brand into an experience makes customers feel part of something bigger, building loyalty for life. As always, I am happy to discuss this subject via virtual meeting over coffee. DM meD.M. P.S. P.S.t is later in the day; cocktails or NA coN.A.tails are an option
