🗣 Transport engineers and transport economists often like to debate, sometimes even competing with Zeno of Elea 😁. So, I was truly honored at the opportunity to speak at the annual TRASPOL - Research Centre on Transport Policy conference "Transport #Policies: #Planning, #Assessment and #Regulation" held at Politecnico di Milano last February 21st 2024. There, I gave a description of the national #multimodal #passenger #transport #model developed by #FSResearchCentre with Isfort. An effective tool for transport scenarios #assessment in our country. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗘𝗨 𝗺𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗿𝗲-𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 We have called on Members of the European Parliament to revive the EU’s focus on the fundamental role of #publictransport. IRU EU Director Raluca Marian said, “#EU funding must also be made available for zero-emission vehicles and the required infrastructure. Public transport is key to shifting people from private to collective mobility; in other words, advancing the EU’s #decarbonisation goals.” IRU’s member network operates urban and regional bus services in many cities and countries across the EU and beyond. 📅📅 Mark your calendars for the 13th Florence Intermodal Forum: urban nodes along the Trans-European Transport Network on 14 June. At the Forum, Isabelle Vandoorne along with other mobility experts, will explore key questions around the coordination of urban nodes, including: ⚙️What would be appropriate, basic and commonly agreed mechanisms for coordination? 🤝Who could/should be in charge of coordinating and representing the stakeholders of an #UrbanNode? 💬Is there a one-size-fits-all structure or common principles? The forum will also explore the potential of #multimodal passenger hubs to act as a gateway between urban nodes and the #TEN_T network, creating a robust public transport system that supports sustainable #UrbanMobility. 🔗https://ow.ly/aW9350RZY16

Ecorys Principal Consultant Jochen Maes will join the POLIS Network 2024 Annual Conference to discuss critical governance strategies for Europe’s Urban Nodes as they work towards EU Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP) targets. The updated TEN-T regulation mandates that 431 Urban Nodes develop SUMPs at the Functional Urban Area (FUA) level soon. Jochen will share insights on bridging the gap between local and trans-European goals to drive connectivity, accessibility, and sustainability in urban mobility. >> Speaking in Session 2G on the 27th of November, 14h30 In his presentation, Jochen will draw from Ecorys’ work on EU-funded projects such as SCALE-UP (https://lnkd.in/gY5cNAr) and VITAL-NODES. He will highlight how multilayered governance models can help overcome the challenge of coordinating across different governing entities within urban nodes. We propose a general 4-step approach to discussing node-specific barriers and challenges. The Ecorys deliverables are prepared in close cooperation with David Matheus and Francesco Bellati. His session will address practical solutions to meet ambitious EU objectives for logistics and multimodal transport, guiding Urban Nodes as they prepare to tackle last-mile connectivity, multimodal hubs, and sustainable freight transport. #Ecorys #SCALE-UP #POLIS24 #UrbanMobility #Governance

On 5 September 2024, the Chair of UIC, Dr Alan Beroud, who also serves as the CEO of Polish State Railways, met with the UIC Board to jointly discuss and define the key directions for the organisation’s development in the coming years. During the meeting, the significance of railways in the international transport system was emphasised, particularly in light of current geopolitical challenges and the growing need to modernise railway infrastructure. The discussion focused on setting priorities that will shape UIC’s activities, including the development of technological innovations, strengthening sustainable development and enhancing operational safety standards. A shared vision was established, which highlights the importance of close regional cooperation and the ongoing pursuit of harmonising international technological and operational standards.
