Job descriptions In the recent years I have seen that JDs (i.e. Job Descriptions) are at a "quality" that can be measured with only negative numbers. It looks like the recruiters are "on a constant and heavy wild goose chase" where there are no geese (either wild or not). Come on, people, please make JDs count!

What Ben has said below is spot on, recruitment companies like us can only go so far, but it is also up to you to help us and yourself. For example: - 1. Once size CV does not fit all, it needs to tailored to the role you are looking for. 2. Think, most CV's only get a 15 to 20 second scan by most recruiters, and if your suitability does not stand out, you will get filed 13 and your CV will be binned. 3. Most companies, the first person to see your CV will be a graduate, does not matter if it is the company or the recruitment company, so the average age will be about 24 years of age and they recruit via key words and a tick sheet. 4. The most important, Civvi Street owes you nothing, just because you served, it means nothing to them, and even when you see adds with "Forces Personnel" guaranteed an interview if you meet the minimum requirements, it does not mean you will get the interview, the key word is "minimum requirements", if you don't make it obvious, you don't get an interview. There are recruitment companies like Ex-Mil Recruitment Ltd #exmil who will always fight your corner, but please work with us and not against us, too often I have calls with guys who either have no clue to what they want to do, have too high expectations of where they want to go, or help I leave in 2 weeks and need a job! We try and do our best, and every CV is vetted and advice is given to everyone, but we cannot do the work for you, you have to meet us at least half way.

WTF. What is this? Why would ever a company need all this information to evaluate if a candidate is a good fit for a position? This questionnaire starts by saying that as they are such a diverse and beautiful company, they would like to know a few details about you… Really? What about focusing on skills, education, work experience, professional references, and things that are actually related to the job that you are hiring this person to do?

Hire for character, not just skill. I have often been in this situation: → 2 candidates were equally qualified. Nr. 2 had less experience. ↳ but a great attitude and potential. Here’s why I chose her: → Skills can be taught. → Attitude cannot be taught. People with the right attitude: - Work hard to learn new skills - Develop your team for the better - Bring the right energy to your environment My 3 conclusions: Trustworthy = reliable and have integrity Attitude = cool people with great work ethic Aptitude = fast, adaptive and curious learners p.s. Your job description can be much shorter… for most of your jobs!

If your job description has almost 60 job "duties", but only 11 actual qualifications for that job... I think things need to be re-evaluated, especially when a full 1/4 of the job duties are a bullet point of a single word, and half of the qualifications are totally subjective in nature.
