A day late but no less heartfelt: happy book birthday to Edward Marx and Cris Ross, a dynamic duo if ever there was one. Getting sick, really sick, is hard. Most of us aren’t lucky enough to work at a top hospital (or have good insurance or access to care) when illness comes for us our our loved ones. Who can you trust? What should you say if you don’t like your options? How can you build a support system to help you with the right things? And how can you do it all when you feel like garbage? Cris and Ed asked themselves the same questions when cancer came for them. They couldn’t believe they had to ask, because they worked for two of the world’s top hospitals. But even they were unsure, scared, and didn’t know what to do next. If only they had a book that laid it all out clearly… When they couldn’t find one, they decided to write one. It’s a book all of us at Mayo Clinic Press are proud to publish, one we hope will help many many people navigate a health care system that’s too hard, too rushed, too fragmented, especially when you’re most in need of it.
