Today, CRG had the incredible opportunity to be at the heart of democracy – the Georgia Capitol. We sat in on the House of Representatives floor session and engaged in insightful discussions at the Public Safety and Homeland Security committee meetings. 🏛️✨ Our presence matters, and as young Black folx, we are not just the future, but active contributors to shaping it. Let's continue to be the voices that drive positive change! 🙌🏽🔗 #GeorgiaLegislature #CivicEngagement #YoungLeaders #FutureLeaders #BeTheChange"

🌟 **Revisiting Black Republican Identity: A Nuanced Perspective** 🌟 Hey everyone! I wanted to take a moment to circle back to my earlier post about the complexities of Black Republican identity. It’s a topic that deserves deeper exploration, especially in light of Clay Cane's book, *The Grift*. I just secured my copy, and Im finding it difficult to put it down. Cane articulates how the embrace of conservative values often leads to a misalignment with the broader goals of the Black community. In *The Grift*, Cane argues that the allure of respectability politics can sometimes overshadow the real issues that affect marginalized communities. He emphasizes that conforming to conservative ideals often requires a compromise of our true identities and values. This can create a misleading narrative that suggests success and acceptance are only attainable through alignment with conservative politics. Moreover, Cane highlights that this approach can divert attention from systemic injustices and the need for genuine advocacy for equity and justice. As he points out, prioritizing respectability over authenticity can alienate those who don’t fit into a narrow definition of what it means to be “acceptable” in political discourse (Cane, 2020). It's crucial for us to recognize that our identities are multifaceted and cannot be boxed into a partisan narrative. Engaging in conservatism can sometimes lead to a dilution of our collective voice, overshadowing the pressing issues we face, from police brutality to economic disparity. Let’s continue to have open discussions about identity and politics, and strive for an inclusive approach that reflects our diverse experiences. It's important that we uplift all voices in our community and challenge any frameworks that seek to constrain our identities. What are your thoughts on this? Let’s keep the conversation going! 💬✨ 👉🏿https://lnkd.in/gykXJSDk #BlackRepublicanIdentity #TheGrift #RespectabilityPolitics #Authenticity #CommunityVoices

Today and ANY day, ask yourself: ♥️ What are you doing to encourage diversity, equity, accessibility and inclusion in your personal and professional life? Do your actions match your words? 🧡 How can you help create space and then support diverse voices and faces in making use of that space? When is the last time you used your platform or network to uplift diverse voices? 💚 In what ways are you currently benefitting from the same societal, social, or professional structures that are harming others? What are you going to DO about that? #juneteenth #diversity #deai
Today marks the day when the last enslaved individuals in Galveston, Texas, learned of their emancipation, two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. This day symbolizes the resilience and perseverance of Black communities in the face of systemic oppression. Let's come together to ensure that the promise of freedom and justice is realized for every individual, regardless of race or background. Happy Juneteenth!

The insult and injustice of the nation never reconciling centuries of debt and restitution owed goes beyond the impairment and indignity accrued and compounded through the years, and further aggravated and exacerbated by any redress given to others. The one most egregious to me is The Compensated Emancipation Act of 1862, which issued reparations to thousands of white slave owners as property compensation for freed --- lost slaves. Even members of Lincoln’s administration were recipients. But this issue is so much more than the just accounting for generations of bondage, for it is an issue of rectifying the ongoing wrongs of ever-present ills, and dismantling the intentional infrastructure of socially engineered disparities.
On this #4thOfJuly nearly 250 years after the birth of the US, we are only at the beginning of repairing the harm caused by the crimes against humanity represented by slavery and the resulting systemic oppression against Black people. https://lnkd.in/gCC6iTre Remember that the majority of the signers enslaved Black people. Thomas Jefferson wrote in the Declaration that "all men are created equal" but also enslaved over 600 people and described Black people as racially inferior. We're proud to be part of the Alliance for Reparations, Reconciliation, and Truth- ARRT an alliance committed to a long-term approach to address the harms against Black Americans centuries in the making by educating the public, amplifying the Task Force report, advancing the task force recommendations, and achieving broad multiracial support. Author & Anti-Racist Content Creator grounded in Higher Education Equity, Democracy, NonViolence and NonStealing. I imagine a USA where race no longer predicts outcomes.
🎯 Baltimore Mayor Brandon M. Scott Nails IT! 🎯 The assault on DEI is really an assault on ➡ D Duly ➡ E Elected ➡ I Incumbents - (Black people and "others" who exercise their rightful place in a democratic republic to represent the people) and, by extension, the right of any Black person to enjoy the rights and privileges of citizenship in an aspirational United States of America where race no longer predicts outcomes. Blackness (which doesn't know its place) triggers whiteness since whiteness presumes a plantation white entitlement to control the location of its property. This is the 🌟 Presumption of Whereabouts Authority 🌟 as I teach in #12swa Twelve Steps for White America. PWA illustrates a commodification of Blackness as a means to sustain the profit of rigged advantage. (Think carceral state from fugitive slave patrols to for-profit prisons, Karens, and minority rule including electoral college, senate, SCOTUS). To the colonized and conditioned white mind, when this happens, it triggers a threat to the existence of whiteness itself, since whiteness was and remains a colonial American construction (an inclusion-collusion-delusion) to sustain rigged advantage, which can only persist through white supremacy and anti-Blackness. 🙏🏼 Mayor Scott's teaching here can lead to truth reconciliation and renewal. White America (including white Americans) needs to work a program of recovery for a USA where race no longer predicts outcomes. #democracy #highereducation #diversity #DEI Three-Fifths Magazine Marjorie A. Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott hit back at the racist right wing attacks against him following the Key Bridge collapse for “having the nerve to be Black and also a mayor.” “What they mean by DEI, in my opinion, is duly elected incumbent.” 🔥🔥🔥 Mayor Scott did not mince any words and I’m here for it ✊🏾

As we celebrated Memorial Day and the unofficial start of summer this past weekend, after reading this article, I couldn’t help but reflect on the state of our country four years ago when George Floyd was senselessly murdered by Minneapolis police officers. We all know the story by now (if you don’t, Google it), but it’s hard not to wonder what would have happened if Mr. Floyd had taken a different path on that dreadful day (May 25, 2020). Would we still be having conversations about race in America, specifically about police brutality and unfair police practices? Sadly, we know the answer. Mr. Floyd’s death brought attention to the disparities faced by Black people in America, not just by police, but by CEOs, judges, doctors, lawyers, and everyday people, not to mention inept politicians and racist social media trolls. But where are we now, four years later? Have we made progress towards racial justice, or in the voice of Biggie Smalls, was it all a dream? DEI initiatives were launched by many companies, but now we read article after article about them being slashed. This begs to ask, did the money allocated for DEI efforts make a difference, or are Black leaders still being marginalized? Are Black employees still being treated unfairly when compared to their white counterparts? Are the court systems really giving equal justice to all, and are cops being retrained to police neighborhoods differently? These are just a few of the many questions we need to ask ourselves and those around us. Truthfully, I believe change is happening, albeit slowly, but we still have a long way to go. We must continue to have uncomfortable conversations about race in America so that we won’t find ourselves in another George Floyd situation. Let’s strive for progress and work toward a better future where we don’t have to ask, “was it all a dream”? #WednesdayWonder
