For a long time, I thought I wanted to have a design studio just because I didn’t want to work for someone else. Wrong. (Tried and failed). I wanted to create something different that goes deeper, considering all my interests, not just design. So, life gave me clues that I could do this: something that would help people self-discover, connect with their real values, change the core of limiting beliefs, serve the greater good and view life more holistically, where everything is beautifully tangled. Tomorrow, something I never dreamed of as possible will be open to help other creatives in a way that I would love to be helped when I was starting, when I was considering shifting my roles in the creative industry or when I just needed someone as an accountability partner to check in and not overwhelm myself in thoughts when I needed the most. Layoffs can be tough and not finding a job can be tougher. After I was laid off, I was lost for a few months. I started posting on LinkedIn, talking about game-dev and my experiences in games. 👉 I talked about building games using modern tech tools and finding better ways to distribute them. ✅ I realized people liked my content and I started creating consistently. Result 👉 I collaborated with many founders/devs/publishing partners and generated good $$ (5-fig) from referrals and freelance work. All I was doing was sharing my day-to-day process of developing games. While doing this, I also explored Medium as a platform to write articles. Fast forward 1 and a half years later: 👉 LinkedIn: we are a network of almost 10,000 game makers. 🥳 👉 Medium: Created a small audience of 3,000 readers. In April 2024, I started creating content on YouTube 👉 2 months later, I hit a simple milestone in every creator's journey -> 1,000 subscribers. 👉 I am no video editor/marketer, I use a free tool called ClipChamp with basic edits (I need to improve my editing tho lol). I still need to fill view hours for my channel to be monetized. I am getting a deeper understanding of human psychology by creating on various platforms. I plan to apply these learnings to my future indie game projects. If you keep doing something you are interested in consistently, for a long time, and improving a little bit every time -> you won't regret it. #gamedevelopment #contentcreator

I started my creative studio 3 months ago I’ve not got a single rejection so far! Rewind to 6 months ago, Clients rejected me all the time I knew something had to change So here’s what I did: → Only focused on High-Quality work → Free trials for new clients → Hired help for the less creative tasks This helped me massively upgrade My onboarding process Rejecting low-quality work let me bring my best to high-quality clients That in turn led to higher-quality referrals Giving new clients Free samples gave them an idea of what working together looked like And they loved working with me! I hired people to manage parts of my business that took away my energy This let me focus on the most important part of being a creative studio The creativity! Clients love high-quality work, especially when it is at no risk to them Do this, and watch your services soar!

When did you last realise that going solo just isn't enough? Back in 2019, I hit a bit of a snag.. I was knee-deep in a massive design project, putting in crazy hours. It was exciting and all, but once it wrapped up, I hit a realisation: as a solo designer, I'd reached my limit. No matter how hard I worked, there was only so much one person could do. That was my wake-up call. To make a bigger impact and reach new heights, I needed more than just my own effort. I needed a team, different skills, and a bigger goal. So, I took the plunge and started my own agency. Now, as CEO, I’m lucky to work with an amazing team who share my drive. Together, we're building strong brands and creating real connections. The takeaway? Going solo can only take you so far. To really thrive, you need a crew and a vision that goes beyond just you. For anyone considering a change, go for it. I was chatting to a girlfriend and we both admitted that we didn't tend to talk enough publicly about our career wins. Which is ironic, as a lot of my work is encouraging others to celebrate their wins. When I'm not working with Games Leadership Network or Games Leadership Academy I work as a freelance Operations Director. This is a very private role (and it should be) and often the celebrations are that everything "just works as it should" which can feel like there's less to shout about. So, for #iwd2024 I wanted to acknowledge just some of my achievements in the past year!: ⭐Provided Leadership Coaching for over 100 clients in the Games Industry. ⭐Helped negotiate changes to a publishing contract for an indie studio. ⭐Helped two studios move from Berlin to the UK. ⭐Helped secure funding for a further two indie studios. ⭐Setup (and filed taxes!) my own Consultancy Company. ⭐Hired and onboarded 12 People. ⭐Mediated Leadership changes in a studio. ⭐Setup HR and Operations Processes for 3 studios. ⭐Conducted wellbeing surveys at 5 studios. ⭐Helped oversee too many VGTR applications. ⭐Secured three registered trademarks. ⭐Helped setup new bookkeeping and accounts processes for two studios. ⭐Wrote lots of policies including an Ethical AI policy. ⭐Introduced Performance Reviews at an indie studio. ⭐Helped create and maintain budgets at 3 studios. ⭐Provided a million (I am exaggerating but it feels like this) Studio Leadership reports that have helped changed studio structure and processes. Of course, all of this has been achieved with the help of some incredible teams and I'm truly grateful for the trust and support I've been given to help make these things happen! ❤️ #Personaldevelopment #Gamesleadership

Hi everyone, It’s been a while since I’ve been active here, and honestly, the time away has done wonders for my mental health. That said, I’m still feeling burnt out and emotionally drained from advertising and design work—and I don’t see that changing in the near future. It’s tough to admit because being a creative professional has always been my dream. I didn’t grow up envisioning Mad Men or ads, but I’ve always aspired to make a living doing what I love: creating. I know the value of meeting deadlines, honing technical skills, and delivering exceptional work. But the lack of emotional support, the unspoken social pressures, and the "high school hierarchy" of many office environments have made me rethink my relationship with Art Direction altogether. Stepping away has been heartbreaking but necessary. I’m relocating back to NYC early next year and looking forward to connecting with cool, like-minded people. Right now, I’m focusing solely on passion projects. If you’re a copywriter or creative looking for an Art Director to help with portfolio pieces or underfunded concepts, let’s chat. As I finish up my 5th season of projects as Founder/Creative Leader at Blue Flamingos An Idea Company, I can't help but feel eternally grateful to the clients, colleagues, designers, and friends who have made being in business for (almost) 5 years possible. Launching an event/live show-based business in 2020 was not for the faint of heart and it is through the support of those mentioned above that we were able to not only survive our 1st year but continue to where we are today. I am both proud and grateful to write that sentence. I started Blue Flamingos as an ellipsis...a continuation of the work I was passionate about instead of an ending. (IYKYK) The thing about an ellipsis is that they also connect as well as allow for continuation...and it feels fitting to think of the journey as an ellipsis. Today I am placing my 'Open to Work' banner back up as a means of continuing my creative career journey. Blue Flamingos An Idea Company is not fully going away, at least not immediately, but I know in my heart that it is time to move back to the world of full-time employment. Connecting audiences with a brand/organization’s story is my passion and I am seeking a Creative/Entertainment/Events Leadership role, but would also love to create Concepts and Narratives for live/light shows, immersive experiences and events for Creative/Themed/Entertainment/Events/Non-Profit organizations. I am currently based in San Antonio, Texas but open to relocating. I have also worked remotely since 2015 (before it was cool!). I have worked closely with organizations such as The Philadelphia Zoo, Mission Road Ministries, Oregon Zoo, Missouri Botanical Gardens, Sesame Place, SeaWorld San Antonio, Cole Finney Creative, and Oak Island Creative.
