Equal parenting is coming. More and more dads are choosing to work flexibly. And more and more dads want to take longer paternity leave. As men, we can be breadwinners, and we can be carers. We can be providers and we can be provided for. We can be leaders, and we can be led. Equal Parental Leave (EPL), is a significant policy that can support this evolution of masculinity, redefine fatherhood and contribute to gender equality at work and at home. There are around 80 organisations in the UK that have introduced EPL. LSEG (London Stock Exchange Group) are the latest and I spoke about the announcement, and what it could mean in regards to influencing other large employers to do the same, on BBC Radio London last week. There was an outstanding team member who once shared with me that during her job search, our company was the only one that did not inquire about her marital status, especially her family planning, during the interview process. This surprised me greatly because it could involve employment discrimination and gender bias. Regarding gender issues, although there is always room for improvement, I am proud that the companies I work with choose to support gender equality and parents. Even before Taiwan legally recognized same-sex marriage, my former company, #Playerium, provided marriage leave to same-sex partners who registered at the household registration office. We also allowed parents to adjust their working hours based on their child's needs or provide additional family care leave. At my current company, #NeonDoctrine, we reevaluated parental leave before the birth of the first baby during a parent's tenure. We improved maternity leave for women and paternity leave for partners, surpassing the legal requirements. We even introduced adoption leave. Currently, two team members have benefited from these new adjustments. Raising children is not easy, I am incredibly proud that my companies embrace these initiatives to support and bring happiness to our parent employees. #genderEquality #parents #noDiscrimination #noBias

Are you a Working Dad? Talk about your parenting responsibilities at work! Make sure your colleagues know that being a dad is important to you, and you need work-life balance, support for your parenting responsibilities - like time off when your child is sick, attending school events, feeling safe to talk about child care and concerns. Take your full parental leave when your child is born! HR people have shared with me that even with generous leave, most dads don't take it all. Do it, take it! Your kids are more important than your job. And follow Elliott Rae to get those conversations going! Talk to other dads about being dads, and the support you want from your workplace.
