According to the 2020 PropTech Survey, 53% of respondents said their organisation was not well positioned to leverage maximum value and insights from its data. 3 – We don’t have the time. Tomorrow’s risks and today’s critical decisions. 4 – There’s lack of common standards. This has been a hurdle to innovation, but much work has been done. Day 18 of the #30DayMapChallenge (3D): 🏙 Today´s map shows which parts of the earth’s surface are more densely covered with buildings. It highlights a particularly high building density especially in East and Southeast Asia. Benjamin Herfort and al. created this map and compared it with the building data available in #OpenStreetMap using the #ohsome framework (https://lnkd.in/ean92eat), which allows for an analysis of historical #OSM data. They analyzed how complete the building data on OpenStreetMap is for 13,189 urban areas – and where data is still missing. They found that for regions with a high building stock remarkably little data is available. Nothing better embodies my work at Apartment List better than our new operating principle, have unapologetically high standards ⚡ My team, Data Strategy, owns the metrics layer of A-List data. A year ago, Apartment List had inconsistency in our metrics that sucked time from the teams when it came to diagnosing metric movement and identifying site incidents. Data Strategy was a newly established team of two with a tall order to "fix analytics data". The keys to our success were: 1) integrating a data modeling tool into our data-building process that enabled us to establish data ownership and process in the right places 2) adopting a one big table (OBT) schema strategy that builds "one source of truth" into the data structure powering global company reporting Today, queries run faster, business logic is source controlled, and everyone knows the one place to look to find the metric they seek.
