One thing that is apparent from visiting dealer groups is the lack of understanding, basic knowledge or passion for EV from the sales teams. Some sites are much better than others but overall, the standard is low. The key to increasing BEV sales can be unlocked with proper, dedicated training. That could be in charging from my team at Pod Point or sales skills from the amazing team at MotorVise (Automotive) Ltd As an industry we expect sales people to sell. Why not equip them with the confidence they need to help the public transition into BEVs?

In the United States, sales of new light-duty EVs increased every month compared to same month of the previous year from 2021 to 2023. The highest sales for a single month in 2021 was about 50,000 vehicles, for 2022 was about 80,000 vehicles, and in 2023 was over 100,000. Sales growth of electric vehicles has slowed dramatically this year. Tesla delivered 20% fewer cars in the first quarter of 2024 than in the prior quarter, and BYD who was previously the world’s biggest EV maker saw sales decline more than 40% over the same period.
