Do you have an Identity Protection Personal Identification Number (IP PIN) from the IRS? More than 10.4 million taxpayers do. If you don’t have one, the IRS is encouraging you to add an extra layer of protection between your tax return and identity thieves by joining the IP PIN program at the start of the 2025 tax season. It’s a six-digit number you can apply for voluntarily. It’s valid for one year, and you’ll automatically be given a new one after expiration. Suppose you file your tax return with an incorrect IP PIN. The return will be rejected or the IRS will reach out to validate the information. IRS Tax Fraud Cases In December 2006, Congress passed the Extension of Tax Relief Act of 2006 (“Tax Relief Act of 2006”), which contained a whistleblower reform provision (Section 406) amending Title 26 U.S.C. Section 7623 to include whistleblowers. These amendments authorize the IRS to create a Whistleblower Office to process tips received from individuals who “spot tax problems in their workplace, while conducting day-to-day personal business, or anywhere else they may be encountered.” The IRS whistleblower program enables the IRS to detect underpayments of tax and bring violators of tax laws to justice, with the help of whistleblowers. https://lnkd.in/gpC5jyC9

🚨 Attention Tax Pros: Erroneous IRS CP14 Notices Causing Taxpayer Confusion 🚨 The IRS is sending out incorrect CP14 notices to taxpayers who have already paid their 2023 taxes, indicating they still owe money. This is causing significant stress for those who have cleared their payments. Tax professionals are reporting a large number of clients receiving these notices, particularly those who paid via paper checks. The IRS acknowledges the issue and advises taxpayers to check their bank statements to confirm payment and not respond to the notices at this time. If the issue persists after 6-8 weeks, provide proof of payment to the IRS to avoid penalties and interest. Encourage clients to log into their IRS online accounts to verify payment status and monitor for automatic adjustments. As tax pros, it's crucial to guide clients through this confusing situation and ensure they are not penalized for payments already made. Stay informed and advise accordingly. 💡 #TaxTwitter #TaxPros #IRSNotices #TaxSeason2023 #TaxNews https://lnkd.in/e6MPbvSC

April 15th is creeping closer, so it's time to assess your tax situation. Ideally, we'd all be filing and paying by then, but hey, life happens! This is your official "get out of jail free" card. File for an extension to avoid penalties from the IRS. It's a simple way to buy yourself some extra time to gather documents. But remember, an extension gives you more time to file, not to pay. You'll still owe any taxes due by April 15th to avoid interest and penalties. #winspireacc #tax #taxseason2024 #usa #uscpa #cpafirms #taxdeadline #april15
