Professional Organization Volunteerism/Leadership = Opportunities to Test/Use My Skill Sets Over the last week I was able to help oversee the coordination of the CCCADA Annual Convention, the duty tasked to the 1st VP. Thankful for the work that the entire Executive Board did to make the event a success, from securing quality speakers, engaging sponsors to make the convention affordable for the attendees, and making sure everything ran smoothly. Fortunate that we all knew our roles, which made it all look easy. This convention is unlike the typical ones that I've attended or assisted with over the years, some may say there is more "fun" than learning. On the surface it may seem that way, but with the extended opportunities for the membership to gather and have professional conversations and collaboration, we seem to leave with new ideas and solutions for us to use as we serve our associations, institutions, and student-athletes. In true administrator style, I was able to steal from what others have done to plan, organize, and execute large events and use similar concepts to help us put on a successful event. Glad to have worked with so many that have set great examples for us to follow. Moving forward as the members of the executive board ascend into our new roles within the association, I hope as the incoming president I can live up to the standards set by my predecessors and help progress us forward by using the collaboration and participation of the entire membership. More to come...more to do...a little tired physically but the voluntold cup has been refilled by the quality time spent with another branch of my professional family. I encourage everyone to find a way to get involved or allow yourself to be voluntold, it's worth it.

"People may not remember what you said... but they will never forget how you made them feel". This quote by Maya Angelou, paraphrased was how my first speaker session on Effective Communication at the CCIHSS Volunteer Training Summit came to a close. The foundation of all misunderstanding comes comes from communication. How it is sent, received, the intent e.t.c. Sometimes, the message you intend to pass is not what is received. So tact is necessary so as to convey appropriate meaning to our intended message. For people in product, great comminication skill is need in announcing feature updates, service disruptions, price adjustments e.t.c. I'll share more on the topic later. ---- It was wonderful to also learn more about what CCIHSS is doing to help the diverse peoples living in Canada maintain great all round health and life their best lives.

🌟 Excited to be a member of Children in Wales 📚💡 Over the weekend I took some time to think about how I can be a better consultant to both my candidates and clients. After a bit of scrolling through Linkedin, I came across Children in Wales an organisation that works closely with Welsh Government and others in Wales to ensure that children's rights are at the forefront of policy and decision making. Why have I became a member? 1) Candidate attraction 🎓 - In order to correctly qualify and attract care professional's with the experience Randstad requires, I need to be up to date with the latest information within the industry. 2) To Consult 🤝 - In most industries, a consultant is someone who is at the top of their specialism, someone who is knowledgeable and informed. In order to improve my ability to consult, I need to be involved in the conversations and changes within the industry. 3) Candidate Retention 💪 - Retaining our experienced staff members in a competitive industry is key! By building and improving my knowledge, I am able to have deeper conversations & understand the role my staff perform day in day out and also provide them with updates and new insight within the industry that they may not be aware of. 4) Passion 🔥 - I care deeply about the industry I work in. With my experience as a young carer, my own personal journey, listening to the stories and observing the efforts of my staff working with young people; I feel it is my duty to be involved in the conversations and developments and to not just be passionate, but to be informed. Really looking forward to embarking on this journey to build my knowledge and be more involved in the industry. 😁 #childrenincare #residentialchildcare #randstad #childrenarethefuture #childrensservices #childreninwales
