I recently shared Steve Deal's RealClearDefense piece about the need for transformation to get to needed national security innovation, and how rethinking approaches to talent matter most for this. He talked about this on the Midrats podcast, and the discussion was really thoughtful and insightful. Some key things that struck me: - Making real change takes enough leaders, together, willing to bet real political capital. - The defense establishment needs much more talent with outside experience and perspectives. - Right now is the time for action. https://lnkd.in/gtfW-fad

#Command and #control, or #C2, is the most important #warfighting function. In this excellent episode of Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS)'s China Power podcast, host Bonny Lin interviews Joel Wuthnow to understand recent changes in the #PLA's C2 structure. While the impetus for this episode was certainly the disbanding of the Strategic Support Force and the stand-up of the Information Support Force, there is so much that is worthwhile to chew on in this episode. For those who aren't yet spun up on #PLA , this episode offers a great rundown on the #C2 structure at the #PLA service, theater command, and support force level, as well as the C2 relationships between each and with the Central Military Commission. In addition, there is a discussion of trade-offs - what is gained, and what is lost, in this new structure? While some middle management is removed, span of control remains a challenge. I'd offer that, within a system with the inherent weaknesses that exist within an authoritarian regime like the #CCP, the distrust and insistence on centralized control will only compound span of control challenges that will continue to stymie #Xi and the #CMC in exerting effective and timely control of the #PLA.

It was an absolute pleasure being on the Smart Money Simplified Podcast with Brent R. Mekosh CFP®, CEPA®, CIMA® yesterday and joining forces with my good friend ex- Lieutenant Colonel Oakland McCulloch. We debated some of the biggest issues in the world today across #leadership without #purpose, #trust, #community which has an obvious correlation to #societal and its #impact to the #world. Building trust with the communities we serve is critical to living our mission. We are very excited to say the #podcast will be live in 2 weeks. Blaine Lee Pardoe American author and military historian once said: “When people honor each other, there is a trust established that leads to synergy, interdependence, and deep respect. Both parties make decisions and choices based on what is right, what is best, what is valued most highly.” #csuite #executivedirectors #culturetransformation #innovation #strategytoexecution #nonexecutivedirectors #psychologicalsafety #boardofdirectors #valuersbasedleadership #employeeengagement #vision #ceos #businessresilence #opportunities #riskmanagement #tech #businessstrategy #research #businessgrowth #people #values #emphathy #strategyplanning #strategicleadership #strategicgrowth #mindset #businesstransformation #globalbusiness #trustbuilding #businessgrowth #employeeengagement #peopleandculture #peoplemanagement
