I’ve always believed that education can change lives, but let’s be honest—it has to connect with kids first. That’s what we’re doing at Checkpoint. We take what kids love—video games—and use it as a bridge to real-world learning. Not by playing games in class, but by drawing from the rich culture and stories they represent to teach critical skills in ways that actually resonate with them. Now, here’s where it gets exciting: with our lessons academically verified and already used in schools across the UK, we’re inviting businesses to help us take this to the next level. Imagine your company funding lessons that inspire the next generation while meeting ESG goals and delivering real social impact. It’s about shaping the future of education together. If you’re interested in learning more, I’d love to chat. Let’s do something meaningful. #EducationInnovation #SocialImpact #Checkpoint

Day 2 of Westminster Games Week and it's all about Skills. At last night's dinner with MPs I set out our ambition for this to be the "most pro-games Parliament in British history" based on three core "asks"for cross-bench support: 1) Supporting pro-growth policies, in particular by enhancing tax reliefs for game development and equipping the UK Games Fund with the resources to support a new generation of indies; 2) Working in partnership with the industry to maintain a balanced regulatory environment for video games developers and publisher's to create great experiences for players, and; 3) Supporting calls to put digital creativity at the heart of skills and education policy by backing the call for a Digital Creativity GCSE. This latter point is today's main topic for discussion in Parliament. We have built a digital society for our children, and now we urgently need to equip them with the core skills to live in it safely and productively. This touches on building empathy and critical literacy, media literacy and the curiosity and know-how to be digitally creative. We've already had support from teachers and policymakers. Our ambition is to translate this positive momentum into real and lasting change. We are working hard to supercharge not only the creative economy in the UK but to transform education and cultural participation. Say it with me: It CANNOT be blockbuster-or-bust. That is where we're heading across all of entertainment, and there is no universe in which that is a reasonable, logical way of conducting business. And there is no physical law of *this* universe that says that we have to operate this way. (This is also why I'm increasingly skeptical of forcing public companies to have the kind of fiduciary responsibilities they do, it's a recipe for bad business. That's like turning up to a casino and demanding you win every hand, it's going to end in tears for someone...) If your project makes $1 of profit, take it as a win. You're in the black. I understand that Concord is probably not in that position, unfortunately. That will happen, not every product can be a success story. Conversely, however, not every product is going to be the new iPhone. Thinking that it MUST be, to satisfy ROIs, shareholder expectations, and general greed, is the equivalent of economic heat death. So, invest in smaller projects. When you make 400% profit and freak out that you didn't hit the 500% profit projection, give yourself a reality check, because you still came out of it with cash in the bank. Take losses in stride and as the learning opportunities they are, especially if you're in a position where a loss isn't the end of the business. Not exactly rocket science I'd say, but apparently we have to start shouting it from the rooftops...
Concord was shut down today. Thats 200 million (at least) and 8 years of development for 8 days worth of being live. And folks wonder whats wrong with the game industry. We need to change how these games are made.

IT WEEK 7I've been asked countless times "What does physics have to do Radio Station?". Well, Before IT, the only thing I knew is related to "Radio" is the waves but after 7 weeks, I now know it's so much more.I've learned about the broadcasting chain (from the sound waves produced in the studios - and the working principle of the microphones - super fun! - to the transmitter down to a listeners radio.Familiarizing myself with the broadcast workflow, including programming and live broadcasts. Team collaboration - the most interesting part of my IT. Meeting with other Interns from different schools all over country and outside. 10 more weeks to go!🥳🥳

In a panel talking about BEAD at CCK a couple weeks back, the presenter asked the broadband providers present who was planning to participate, who was not, and who was not sure. Here were the responses: Planning to participate: None. Not planning to participate: Maybe one. Not sure: Pretty much everyone in the room. All this to say, there is still a ton of uncertainty around BEAD and until applications start flowing and winners start being named we REALLY won't know who the winners and losers will be. But one thing is for sure; the competitive environment in the broadband space will only get more intense. If you participate, you'll be closer to competition. And if you don't participate (even if you do), competition will be closer to you. The way you go to market, engage your customers, engage your community, and COMPETE will all have to change. Now is when you need to be laying the groundwork for what's to come, no matter what side of the BEAD fence you fall on. #broadband #ruralbroadband #sethtalks

... and it looks fantastic! #gamification is how 21st Century students expect media to appear - as interactive, engaging and iterative, and with no fear of failure to limit learning. Our old #education habits have infected #digitalmedia with stale, static material, but events like this show the way forward into an immersive learning future. I'm going to show you how immersive simulation not only takes the fear out of #cybersecurity when students first experience what is a scary subject for most people, but also how gaming can offer distinct advantages for exploring any 'scary' subject, from cyber to #quantum! Examples from ICTC-CTIC & Quantum Algorithms Institute on Field Effect's Cyber Range simulator will abound! Check out that speaker list, it's expansive and highlights some of the most out-of-the-box thinkers in #CanadianEducation: https://lnkd.in/gSPSukpP Some I know: Steve Isaacs Benjamin Kelly Jim Pedrech Katina Papulkas Kyle Boyko and many more I'm looking forward to meeting.

From the job creation standpoint - top things that would help solve the problem: - Fewer games coming out (we are in a state of oversupply) - Better education for investors about the games industry - Lower interest rates - Better understanding from studio founders of which genres actually have a potential of success - Better access to legal and accounting support - More standardizations of taxes across federal, state and local levels - More support for remote businesses - More support for diverse founders (age, gender, ethnicity, location, neurospiciness, etc)
Honestly, receiving 20-40 messages, sometimes, a week from people saying they are about to be homeless or have exhausted all their funds due to prolonged unemployment is deeply troubling and nauseating. It's disheartening to think people have become almost desensitized to such serious human statements because they hear them every day. Start counting how many posts you see, in feed, of people literally saying this is the state they are in. It will feel like a gut punch. When scores of exceptional games professionals regularly share these dire situations, it's a clear sign that major structural issues need urgent attention yesterday.
