I had the privilege of presenting our research at the ESC Congress in London, focusing on the impact of iron deficiency definitions on prognoses in patients with heart failure. Our key finding was that the prevalence of iron deficiency in heart failure patients significantly varies depending on the definition used. Notably, we observed that iron deficiency, when defined by transferrin saturation (TSAT) <20% or serum iron ≤13 µmol/L, is associated with an increased risk of mortality and hospitalization due to heart failure. This highlights the critical need to carefully consider how we define and diagnose iron deficiency in clinical practice, as it could have profound implications on patient outcomes. #CVCT2024 : A significant advancement has been made in the field of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) for heart failure treatment. Publication on Nature Medicine, focused on the QUEST study, highlights the efficacy and safety of the Qiliqiangxin (QLQX) capsule in treating patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF). The trial included 3,110 patients and demonstrated that QLQX, when added to standard treatment, significantly lowered the incidence of major adverse cardiovascular events by 22%.
