#INKISH · #NonEvent24 · 120 days from now, the 7th NON-EVENT will take place, and every year, it has become better and better. It started as a Christmas Lunch for our freelancers and employees. Then my good friend Mark Hinder told me, "Morten, you need to have a program. Companies can't justify attending a networking event without a program," so we developed a program. At the end of the COVID, Alon Bar-Shany spoke remotely from Israel. Peter Sommer was stuck in South Africa, but still, we managed to do an amazing event. The following year was even more amazing. Martijn Eier spoke about the war in Ukraine - 100 people were entirely silent - I even felt the tears in my eyes as he described the situation. Sandra Wagner spoke about the digital transformation with Koenig & Bauer, and Pat McGrew M-EDP reported the temperature of the global industry after speaking to editors from around the world. The last speaker was also interesting - Henrik Svensmark from DTU Space presented how solar flares form clouds influencing global warming. Speakers with different backgrounds gave the attendees a unique experience. Last year, the speakers were Christoph Gamper, Matteo Cardinotti, Marcus Thomasfolk, William Crabtree, and Pat McGrew M-edp - and again, the stage was set for amazing learning - and networking beyond - just beyond. Some of the products you see on the market today have a direct path back to the NON-EVENT, and the 2024 edition will be even more exciting. Speakers are Golan Landsberg, Montserrat Peidro, and Gee Ranasinha. And entirely new: We have a lounge event in the afternoon with industry honorees —and though all haven't signed on yet, we can present Naresh Khanna, Pat McGrew M-edp, and Jacob Aizikowitz. 🌊 The Underwater Web: Fibre Optic Cables Beneath the Ocean 🌐 Beneath the surface of our oceans lies an intricate network of fibre optic cables—the hidden infrastructure enabling the seamless flow of global communication. These cables use the principles of optical communications physics, transmitting data as pulses of light through ultra-pure glass fibres. The key physics behind this lies in total internal reflection, where light travels down the fibre by bouncing off the internal walls, maintaining the signal strength over thousands of kilometres. Each fibre can carry multiple wavelengths of light, using a techqiue known as Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM), allowing for immense data throughput with minimal energy loss. This is what enables the vast amounts of information we send across the globe in real-time. Though their lifespan is only 25 years, they’ve been replaced multiple times. So why do we focus so much on satellites? And how have we explored less than 5% of our oceans? 🤯🌐. From the moment I stepped into Sochi-Russia, I was greeted by a wave of enthusiasm and optimism, setting the stage for an extraordinary experience. This wasn’t just any conference—it was a melting pot of cultures, ideas, and dreams, where 20,000 delegates from 250 nations converged to celebrate unity and ignite change. The conference provided a comprehensive platform for thought-provoking discussions, hands-on workshops, and eye-opening sessions enabling a dynamic exchange of knowledge and innovation, where experts and visionaries dissected pressing issues like never before, from calculating carbon footprints to envisioning the future of employment in an AI-driven world. Throughout the conference, I gained a treasure of insights, from mastering carbon-neutral construction to learning the art of personal branding. Every workshop was a revelation, offering practical strategies to boost productivity, nurture happiness, and foster thriving communities. And hey, as the Pakistani tech scene’s biggest cheerleader, I made sure to fly the flag high. As an ambassador for Pakistan, I seized every opportunity to showcase our nation’s rapid strides in the tech arena. Engaging with delegates from across the globe, I proudly shared our successes and aspirations, igniting a spark of curiosity and collaboration that transcended borders. 🌍✨ One week after the ELIA Networking Days in Berlin, I’m still feeling inspired by the incredible moments we shared during the sessions and networking opportunities. The discussions revolved around embracing change and evolution while adapting to the new realities of our industry to remain relevant. There can never be a language industry without the human element, but technology is essential to stay relevant! Beyond the sessions, the networking moments were just as impactful.
