Big news in air pollution in Europe 🌞 The Ambient Air Quality Directive has successfully passed 🥳 This is big news for the millions of people and vulnerable environments that are affected by air pollution every year. Hundreds of thousands of people die every year in Europe due to air pollution, and this Directive is one of the best ways to drive clean change through regulation. Also, it is big news for the environment and the climate 🌍 🌲 and also means a lot for economies 🤑 It is a win-win, but it is a massive win for people and planet 👍
We are excited to announce that the revised Ambient Air Quality Directive (AAQD) has successfully passed its final vote in the EU Environment Council, receiving clear support from member states, with only one abstention. This marks a significant step toward improving air quality across Europe, reflecting a commitment to a healthier environment for all. #CleanAir #AAQD

https://lnkd.in/et_tvVdA At COP29 we often find ourselves citing the Chicago Convention that was signed in 1944: "WHEREAS the future development of international civil aviation can greatly help to create and preserve friendship and understanding among the nations and peoples of the world, yet its abuse can become a threat to the general security; and WHEREAS it is desirable to avoid friction and to promote that co-operation between nations and peoples upon which the peace of the world depends; THEREFORE, the undersigned governments having agreed on certain principles and arrangements in order that international civil aviation may be developed in a safe and orderly manner and that international air transport services may be established on the basis of equality of opportunity and operated soundly and economically; Have accordingly concluded this Convention to that end." This inspired group of people saw clearly as early as in 1944 that air transport is essential for peace and prosperity, and that its delivery must be based on equality of opportunity, and be operated soundly and economically. At COP29 in 2024, this still holds true.
