At yesterday’s National Innovation Policy Forum, CRA welcomed the announcement by Shadow Minister Paul Fletcher that the Opposition supports the continuation of Australia’s Cooperative Research Centres Program. Established in 1990, the CRC Program is an Australian Government initiative that funds industry-led collaborations between industry, researchers, and end users, helping to drive innovation and tackle the issues we currently face within the R&D landscape. At the event, Shadow Minister Fletcher highlighted that “a lot more thought needs to be put into how we get the research out of the labs and into the marketplace” – something that lies at the core of this industry-led initiative. We appreciate the recognition for the CRC Program, which will clearly be integral to helping shape Australia’s future business model. #NIPF2024 #CRCProgram #CRCs #cooperativeresearch #industryresearchcollaboration #industryresearch #australianbusinessmodel

Australia’s Strategic Examination of the R&D system presents a unique opportunity to reform the nation’s innovation landscape. With a strong, independent panel, wide consultation, and alignment with national priorities, it holds great promise. However, challenges like constitutional complexities, historical implementation gaps, and scope ambiguity remain critical barriers. Success depends on actionable recommendations, improved connections within the R&D system, intergovernmental coordination, and leveraging global best practices. The stakes are high –– Australia must turn its potential into progress to secure its future in Science, Research and Innovation. #ResearchAndDevelopment #Innovation #PolicyReform #AustraliaR&D #GlobalCompetitiveness #Sustainability https://wix.to/OrnbjqD #newblogpost

The Group of Eight says the Government’s Strategic Examination of Research & Development announced today demonstrated the government’s commitment to lifting R&D intensity and rightly addressed key issues such as the importance of driving greater R&D investment by industry. “We commend the Government for embarking on this forensic review of the national R&D landscape,” Go8 CE Vicki Thomson said, “We need to better understand and address the barriers holding back investment in R&D. This is a nation building exercise and it must be a national priority. Investment in R&D is an investment in the future of Australia”. The Go8 looks forward to working closely with the expert review panel to develop a research system that delivers Australia the capability to meet complex policy challenges and set the nation up for a prosperous future. https://lnkd.in/gsrgniQn Ed Husic MP Jason Clare MP Department of Industry, Science and Resources #ResearchandDevelopment #innovation #productivity

🌟 I’m excited to share that I have been invited to join an incredible initiative - a National Conversation on Canada’s Innovation Strategy at CSPC as a subject matter expert, collaborating with the fantastic and knowledgeable team: Mehrdad Hariri, Amy Lemay, Shanna Scarrow, and Trudy Dong. It’s been a truly rewarding experience! 🗣️ As part of this initiative, we’ve just completed consultations with representatives from key sectors: Agriculture & Agri-Food, Advanced Manufacturing, Natural Resources, Health, and the High-Tech Industry. We had an excellent turnout from industry representatives, and these discussions have provided invaluable insights into these industries' main trends and challenges and laid the groundwork for developing a national strategy to foster growth. 📅 I am excited to invite everyone to join us for the next step in this journey—the Symposium at the CSPS conference on November 20th in Ottawa. This event will be a platform to share our findings and engage in meaningful discussions about Canada's Innovation Strategy. During the Symposium, we will gather insights from our panelists and encourage feedback from attendees, creating an open dialogue on how to collectively advance Canada's economy and key sectors. 🔍 If you are passionate about participating and contributing to the future of Canada's innovation landscape, we would love to see you there! ✨ Save the Date! ✨ When: November 20, 2024 Where: Westin Ottawa Hotel, Ottawa, ON Join us for the CSPC Annual Conference! Earlier this year, UKCDR published our case study booklet, "Evidencing the wide-reaching benefits of international development research". The booklet includes a new UKCDR framework, developed in discussion with other experts in the field, for understanding the concept of "secondary benefits". Across seven distinct case studies, we apply this framework to demonstrate how UK research funding supports the delivery of primary benefits in #LMICs and secondary benefits around the world. Earlier this week, our CEO, Ezechi Britton MBE, attended the Science and Innovation Banquet at Mansion House, organised by the City of London Corporation. The event was more than just a gathering; it was a celebration of the incredible advancements and collaborative efforts in science and technology that are driving our future forward. As we reflect on the event, several critical themes and discussions stand out: 🔹The event showcased UK’s strengths and the collaborative spirit that drives us to excel on the world stage. It was a powerful reminder of CFIT’s commitment to expanding our influence in these critical fields. 🔹The partnership between Government, private sector, and academia was a focal point of the discussions. The importance of these collaborations in fostering a robust innovation ecosystem is key. 🔹 The future of innovation depends on a skilled and educated workforce. There were compelling discussions on how we can further invest in education and training to support the next generation of scientists and innovators. The event was a powerful reminder of why we do what we do at CFIT – to support and drive innovation that benefits everyone. #OpenFinance https://lnkd.in/eaFPJ7Xc
