It was a great experience moderating Session 6, The Concessions Profitability Factor: Mitigating Costs in a High-Wage, Inflationary Environment at #AX2024.  Thank you to Tosin Kasali, pat murray, Carlos Ruiz, A.A.E., IAP, and Brad Wolfe for sharing your thoughts and elevating the conversation.  To recap: ♟️ Airports and Concessionaires alike recognize the need for continued dialogue to achieve profitability as various market conditions change. ♟️ Construction costs, cost of labor are going to remain at the forefront of the ongoing conversations and will vary city to city. ♟️ We recognize the need to consider more flexibility in contract provisions without diluting essential contract requirements. ♟️ We are seeing more airports implementing longer lease terms, revisiting MAG, and how pricing is handled to help achieve profitability. ♟️ We are all advocating for ongoing partnership, transparency, and open communication that starts well in advance of an RFP release while maintaining these intentions throughout the contract term to ensure robust and profitable concessions programs. On the third day of #WCEF2024, we delved into the outcomes of the Global Resources Outlook 2024 ⚠️ Material use has surged by over three times in the last fifty years and continues to grow by an average of over 2.3% per year. 💡 Following the policies and shifts outlined in the report could paint a significantly brighter picture for 2060 compared to current models. Material use growth could decrease by 30%.

The company recorded an 8% organic growth rate and an operating margin of 10.4%, highlighting its strong market position and continued demand for its services. Global instability has heightened the emphasis on total defence, with digitalisation emerging as a vital element for resilience and industrial competitiveness. This year, Combitech published its “Smart and Secure Industry 2024” report, underscoring the importance of integrating digitalisation into business strategies. The report concluded that prioritising digital transformation is essential for enhancing business strength and competitiveness in the current landscape. CEO Jessica Öberg commented on the challenges facing the sector: “We see a strong innovation force in Sweden, but we need to be better at handling digitalisation and contingency planning as a management and strategy issue. Small- and medium-sized companies, together with large companies, are crucial to keep society going both in peacetime and during crises.
