🌟 Embracing ADHD and Empowering Students 🌟 Helping my two children navigate their ADHD through high school and college was a journey that led to a profound discovery—I, too, have ADHD. Realizing this after years of teaching myself how to cope and succeed without the support I needed, I found my true niche: helping others overcome the daily challenges of ADHD. ADHD is more than just a learning challenge; it affects time management, organization, and can make you feel paralyzed by overwhelm. As an adult, I still face these challenges, but my passion for teaching drives me forward. Witnessing my children overcome so many obstacles and both doing well in life has been incredibly inspiring. Now, as I transition and prepare for retirement in four years, I’ve been reflecting on my true purpose. I believe my calling is to help others overcome these struggles, particularly elementary and middle school students who haven’t yet received the foundational skills they need. My goal is to help these students build the essential skills to boost their confidence and set them up for success. I’ve seen firsthand how small steps of success can lead to significant growth and self-belief. Watching students achieve what they once thought was impossible is incredibly rewarding. To fulfill this mission, I created Champs Tutoring Academy. My aim is to help students build foundational skills, bridge learning gaps, and regain confidence in themselves. With the right support and encouragement, every student can thrive and achieve their dreams. Let’s work together to empower our students and help them reach their full potential! #ADHD #SpecialEducation #MathTutoring #PersonalizedLearning #Empowerment #FoundationalSkills https://lnkd.in/gSkVuY_R

over the past month i have been putting forward the learning difficulties experienced by our learners. Today we put across: *Balancing School and Extracurricular Activities for Learners with ADHD: A Key to Success** As we move through the week, it’s crucial to recognize the importance of balancing schoolwork and extracurricular activities, especially for learners with ADHD. This balance not only helps in academic achievement but also in personal growth and development. Extracurricular activities provide a structured environment where learners with ADHD can channel their energy positively. These activities help in enhancing focus, building social skills, and boosting self-esteem. However, maintaining this balance can be challenging without proper strategies. Here are a few tips: 1. **Create a Consistent Schedule:** A predictable routine helps manage time effectively. 2. **Set Realistic Goals:** Break tasks into smaller, manageable steps to avoid overwhelm. 3. **Encourage Physical Activity:** Sports and physical activities can improve concentration and reduce hyperactivity. 4. **Communicate with Educators:** Work together to ensure the learner's needs are met both academically and in extracurricular settings. 5. **Foster Interests:** Allow the learner to choose activities they are passionate about, which can enhance their engagement and motivation. By striking the right balance, we can help learners with ADHD thrive in all areas of their lives. Let’s continue to support and empower them to achieve their full potential. #ADHD #Education #ExtracurricularActivities #StudentSuccess #Balance #TuesdayThoughts #educator #personalizedlearning --- Miss Mwangi

**Understanding and Supporting ADHD in the Classroom: A Real-Life Example** As educators, we often encounter students with unique challenges that require us to adapt our teaching methods. Let's consider a high school student named Alex, who has ADHD. **Alex’s Challenge:** Alex struggles with maintaining focus during lessons, often appears restless, and has difficulty completing tasks on time. He might frequently interrupt the class or get distracted easily, which can sometimes disrupt the learning environment for others. **How to Support Alex:** 1. **Structured Environment:** - Provide Alex with a clear and consistent classroom routine. Use visual schedules and checklists to help him stay on track. 2. **Break Down Tasks:** - Break assignments into smaller, manageable chunks with clear, step-by-step instructions. This prevents Alex from feeling overwhelmed. 3. **Positive Reinforcement:** - Encourage Alex by recognizing his efforts and achievements, no matter how small. Positive reinforcement can boost his confidence and motivation. 4. **Incorporate Movement:** - Integrate short breaks that allow Alex to move around. This can help him manage his restlessness and regain focus when returning to tasks. 5. **Personalized Support:** - Work closely with Alex to understand his specific needs. This could involve providing additional time for tests, offering one-on-one help, or seating him in a distraction-free area of the classroom. By adopting these strategies, teachers can create a supportive learning environment that allows students like Alex to thrive. Remember, with the right guidance and understanding, every student can reach their full potential. #Education #ADHD #LearningDifficulties #InclusiveEducation #TeachingStrategies #ClassroomManagement #educator #personalizedlearning

Reading is a fundamental skill, yet for some students, it can be a challenge. Starting early is the most effective way to strengthen reading abilities. If your child resists reading, it could be due to underlying difficulties, and avoiding it only exacerbates the issue. Consider whether a learning difference, such as dyslexia or ADHD, might be affecting their progress. Psycho-educational testing by a qualified psychologist can provide clarity and identify any challenges. Addressing these issues early on is essential—ignoring them won’t make them disappear. Accommodations can be implemented to help students thrive, and having a documented history of these accommodations is crucial for college and beyond. Seeking help is not a shortcut; it's about leveling the playing field and giving every student the opportunity to succeed. #testprep #ISEE #SAT #privateschool #testpreptutor

On #WorldMentalHealthDay, I’m reminded of the importance of understanding and supporting the diverse challenges children face in school. When children struggle, whether with dyslexia, ADHD, or other learning difficulties, it’s easy for parents and educators to misinterpret the signs, often attributing them to laziness or a lack of intelligence. This can lead to lifelong feelings of inadequacy and stigma, as well as low self-esteem and even depression. I think of my dear friend, Allen Simon, who grew up in the 1940s when learning difficulties like dyslexia weren’t well understood or diagnosed. Throughout his childhood, Allen was often labeled as “dumb” because he struggled with reading and writing tasks. The education system couldn’t recognize that his mind worked differently—he was another kind of smart. The lack of support took a toll on his confidence, but despite these challenges, Allen’s perseverance and unique way of thinking eventually led him to build a successful business empire, FourPaws, which he sold for nearly $100 million. His story is a powerful reminder that intelligence takes many forms. It’s crucial for us, as parents and educators, to look beyond traditional measures of success and recognize the unique talents each child brings. Let’s commit to paying closer attention to early signs of learning difficulties, providing the right support, and fostering an environment where no child feels left behind or stigmatized for learning differently. When we help children feel seen and supported, we protect not just their education but their mental health as well. #Education #MentalHealth #ChildDevelopment #HP #Inclusion #neuro-atypical functioning #SupportEveryChild
