𝗜 𝗵𝗮𝗱 𝗮 𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗽𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 International Compliance Association 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸. 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝘀𝗻𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗲𝘁 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗮𝘆: ➤ 📝I went with some goals as anyone does when they go to these and isn’t speaking; lets broaden my knowledge and see what I’m not thinking about whilst my head is down at work and remind me why I do this, thanks Rebekah Lisgarten and Chris Jones from STOP THE TRAFIK and Rebecca Marriott from Tide. But how does my management style/approach relate to Fin Crime? ➤ 👔 My style is open and my employers and I have spent thousands over the years exploring and developing high performing teams, to do some incredible and amazing feats for our clients, with sometimes some impossible requests, but the report from the LRN team presented by @amyHanan made me realise the impact that I can have. ➤ 🕜 Spending time developing and communicating with your team(s), understanding and defining your culture will always improve the way of working and your performance, but the additional knock on effects means that staff are more likely to report internal fraud, approach FinCrime situations differently, as they want to protect the brand; as well as their underlying clients. ➤ 🌈 A highlight from the presentation was that employees in organisations with strong cultures are more likely to report their observation at a rate 1.5x higher than those in weak cultures. A real surprise takeaway from a conference, so my question is, have you asked yourself what do you think to your firms culture, does it promote an environment where internal fraud can be reported, without the fear of repercussion? Third-party hotlines like EthicsPro® provide vital anonymity that empowers employees to confidentially report wrongdoing without fear of retaliation. This openness builds a culture of trust and minimises the risk of small issues escalating into larger scandals. From identifying violations early to meeting regulatory mandates, independent hotlines are invaluable for reducing legal, financial, and reputational risk. They serve as an essential early warning system, allowing issues to be promptly contained and corrected. For leadership, providing accessible multi-channel reporting isn't just best practice - it's crucial for exercising effective governance and oversight. Increasingly, regulators view hotlines as a requirement for proper corporate compliance. The widespread adoption of independent third-party hotlines contributes to a society built on transparency and accountability. It's an ethical obligation that should be non-negotiable for any responsible business. Prioritise ethics and protect your stakeholders' interests with Report It Now®. Part 6 - Way Forward The ISO 37001: 2016 ABMS is here to stay! The key driving factor to reduce bribes and corruption is the one or few people in an organization or government agency. Displaying and implementing ethical decision-making, no to corruption, active due diligence, and taking adequate steps in addressing bribery proportionate to the ecology of the business or service led by capable leaders and their teams can prevent, detect, and mitigate such corrupt activities, including the wolves in sheep clothes leaders (e.g. CEO or Directors), but not a guarantee. The ‘firefighting’ including whistleblowing (e.g. ISO 37002) is required regardless of such no guarantee or wanting to rely on Murphy’s Law. One bad apple spoils the barrel. A fish rots from the head down. Benjamin Franklin famously advised fire-threatened Philadelphians in 1736 that “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure” - which is apt for the ABMS practitioners and the CBs as well in doing sincere and correct job in the ABMS journey to the best, not window dressing or poorly attended to resulting in weak compliance framework, easily accessed by corrupt persons and activities. The ISO 37001:2016 ABMS standard gives the flexibility and minimum base for both the private and public to be guided in managing an anti-bribery system suited to the context of business and service. Every person/stakeholder involved in the support, implementation, consulting, training, and monitoring of the standard should not pretend, can be integrated with other (governance and compliance) standards, do it for real. Hypocrites are those who apply to others the standards that they refuse to accept for themselves – Prof. Avram Noam Chomsky (American professor and public intellectual known for his work in linguistics, political activism, and social criticism). THE END of SIX PART personal OBSERVATIONS on the two recent enforcement taken by MACC against a CITYHALL and HIGHWAYCO despite having been certified in ABMS. The analogy of a tiger in the corporate jungle the ISO 37001:2016 should be capturing all the corrupt beings not as a paper tiger nor a tiger in a zoo cage
