Many people, even within the legal profession, are unaware that certain design and UI/UX tactics used by e-commerce platforms are classified as "Dark Patterns"—manipulative practices designed to trick or coerce users into decisions they may not have made voluntarily. Let’s break down the 5 most common dark patterns that e-commerce platforms use to influence customer behavior: Sneak into Basket: Items are added to the shopping cart without explicit user consent, often through misleading pre-selection or fine print. Hidden Costs: Extra fees such as taxes, shipping, or service charges are only revealed at the last step of checkout, making customers feel committed to completing the purchase. Confirm-shaming: Guilting users into making choices by framing the decline option in a way that makes them feel bad, e.g., "No, I don’t want to save money." Countdown Timers: Creating a false sense of urgency with timers, implying limited-time offers when, in reality, the same deal exists after the timer expires. Forced Continuity: Making it difficult for users to cancel a subscription by hiding the unsubscribe option or requiring unnecessary steps to do so. 𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝? Many jurisdictions, including the European Union (under GDPR) and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), are stepping up to regulate these deceptive practices. Can anyone help me actually talk to someone at Shopify ? For the past month, we have been experiencing a credit card bot issue where a bot is attempting tens of thousands of card transactions monthly. Shopify Support is entirely by chat (no support phone number) and the best suggestion they have is to change gateways which doesn’t solve the problem. All I’m asking for is an “are you human” recaptcha type box to our checkout page(s). Alternatively if you or your company has experienced similar, can you please share your solution?

The way we do this, is with "automatic product discounts", that are applied, when you add more quantities. On top, we offer our loyal customers a sitewide 20% loyalty discount - this is a static, "order discount". So the issue starts here: We want to run a summer sale (one single collection, with multiple products, these products are only used in this collection). This collection, should not be eligible for the 20% loyalty discount (the order discount).
