🌍 World Patient Safety Day 2024: "Get it Right, Make it Safe!" 🩺 At Global Surgery Amsterdam, we are dedicated to improving patient safety through timely, effective care, especially in burn treatment and open fracture trauma care. These conditions demand rapid, accurate diagnosis to prevent complications and long-term disability. Globally, burn injuries claim over 180,000 lives each year, primarily in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Trauma is similarly devastating, with injuries being the leading cause of death and disability among people under 45. In LMICs, the impact is often worsened by a lack of trained healthcare workers, leading to delays or errors in diagnosis and treatment. This year’s World Patient Safety Day theme, “Improving Diagnosis for Patient Safety,” aligns closely with our mission. In many LMICs, the shortage of skilled healthcare professionals can mean the difference between life and death. That’s why we are dedicated to training health workers to “Get it right, make it safe,” equipping them with the knowledge needed for quick, accurate assessments and effective care. Let’s work together to improve patient safety and surgical outcomes globally by tackling diagnostic challenges, especially in low-resource settings. By focusing on the training and education of healthcare workers, we can strengthen diagnostic accuracy and ensure that patients receive the timely, life-saving care they deserve. #WorldPatientSafetyDay #PatientSafety #GlobalSurgery #BurnCare #TraumaCare #GetItRightMakeItSafe #LMIC

👁️ Hey folks! Dr. Kenshuk Marwah here from Shivom Eye Care, shedding some light on glaucoma, also known as "kala motiya" in some regions. 🔍 Glaucoma is often referred to as "kala motiya" because the eye vision slowly starts to get smaller like surrounded by black clouds ☁️🌪️ cloudy, like a black spot, when the disease progresses. And eventually progressive disease ,aggressive cases , undiagnosed and untreated Glaucoma patients can turn 🛞 blind 🦯 📈 It's all about eye pressure! Glaucoma occurs when fluid builds up in the eye, increasing pressure and damaging the optic nerve. Eye pressure is something that can be controlled via medication ,laser or surgical procedures . 💥 Laser procedures can help relieve this pressure by improving fluid drainage, reducing the risk of vision loss. 💊 Glaucoma medications are also crucial! They help lower eye pressure and prevent further damage to the optic nerve. 🔄 There are two main types: open-angle glaucoma, where fluid drains too slowly, and closed-angle glaucoma, where the drainage angle gets blocked suddenly. 👩⚕️ Regular eye check-ups are essential for early detection and treatment. So, keep those appointments and protect your vision!

Dr. Marc Bloomenstein shared an exciting perspective on the evolution of treatments in eye care. Remember when pilocarpine was a game-changer, but patients struggled with discomfort and the frequent dosing of 2% or 4% solutions up to four times a day? Fast forward to today, and we’re reimagining miotics in functional and patient-friendly ways. 🙌 Dr. Bloomenstein likened this to the transformation of bimatoprost—originally a glaucoma medication—into Latisse when patients noticed its unexpected lash-enhancing benefits. It’s proof that innovation can turn challenges into opportunities for improved care. #DefocusMedia #DrMarcBloomenstein #Optometry #Ophthalmology #EyeCare #Miotics #InnovationInHealth #Optometrist #Ophthalmologist #Healthcare What excites you most about the advancements in eye care? A Case Study: Unseen Danger How CONCRETIONS Cause CORNEAL ABRASIONS A 60-year-old patient visited my clinic complaining of GRITTINESS, tearing, redness, and an inability to open his eyes for the past three days. Upon fluorescein examination, his eyes appeared normal. I carefully everted the upper eyelid and examined the palpebral conjunctiva, bulbar conjunctiva, and fornices but found no foreign body. Although CONCRETIONS were observed on the upper palpebral conjunctiva. These were left untreated, and the patient was advised eye drops with a follow-up in three day The next day, the patient returned with worsening symptoms, including severe grittiness, photophobia and tearing. On this visit, fluorescein staining revealed CORNEAL ABRASIONS likely caused by the concretions. Recognizing their impact, I decided to remove the concretions. Two days later, the patient returned symptom-free and with a clear cornea, expressing great relief and gratitude. This case demonstrates that concretions on the palpebral conjunctiva, though often overlooked, can cause significant discomfort and corneal abrasions. #EyeCare #Optometry #Ophthalmology #CornealHealth #Concretions #CornealAbrasions #PatientCare #EyeHealthMatters #ClinicalCase #EyeExamination #VisionCare #Conjunctiva #HealthyEyes #EyeSpecialist #MedicalEducation

🧠 New Insights into Nerve Block Safety: Fascicular Injury from Needle Puncture is Rare 🧠 In the field of regional anesthesia, concerns about peripheral nerve injuries are always at the forefront. A recent study led by Victor Varela and his team sheds light on the risk of fascicular injury during needle transfixion in median and ulnar nerves. Key Findings: 🔍Out of 400 needle punctures conducted on isolated human nerves, only 3 instances of fascicular injury were detected. 🔍All injuries were caused by 15° beveled needles, but the low incidence suggests that needle trauma alone is unlikely to cause significant post-block neurological dysfunction. Implications: 📊 This study emphasizes that while needle puncture rarely results in fascicular damage, the complexity of nerve injury mechanisms means we must continue to exercise caution during procedures. 💡 As healthcare professionals, staying informed about such findings helps us enhance patient safety and improve outcomes in our practice. Let's continue to prioritize precision and care in all procedures! 📌 Thank you to Authors: Victor Varela, Jorge Mejia, Carlos Ruíz, Miguel A Rein, Xavier Sala-Blanch 📃 Read the Full Study here: https://bit.ly/4dT3Ft9 #rapm #regionalanesthesia #painmedicine #nerveblock
