A fresh new year with a new (and bigger) set of revenue targets is almost here. If you're an impactful leader, you're also thinking about personal development goals - yours and your team's. 👉 What are you doing to build a team that allows you to spend more time on the work you enjoy? 👉 What are you doing to help your team grow and stretch their skills? If you’re only focused on the numbers and not developing your team too, you’re being lazy—and so is your culture. Leadership requires intentional guidance. When you don't invest in your people, you’re missing a huge opportunity to drive growth. Anything less? That’s just lazy leadership.

In my leadership journey, I've embraced a principle from my faith: "teach them correct principles and they govern themselves." This translates to empowering employees with the why behind projects and processes, fostering a culture of ownership and innovation. I leverage the 5 Whys technique to encourage critical thinking and ensure a deep understanding of goals and objectives. Micromanaging stifles creativity. I've found employees thrive when they understand the goals, objectives, and guiding principles – leaving them to devise their own solutions. This not only fosters a sense of purpose but also leads to more effective and impactful results. What leadership principles guide your approach to empowering your team?

"Bruh, he legit asked me what I thought. {name} asked me what I thought, and actually considered it." I was grocery shopping and overheard a man in his early 20s geeking out to a friend about how he had connected with his idol, and was blown away when this idol, who was clearly a reputable expert in this space, asked this kid what he thought, and listened with consideration. Leadership isn't about having all the answers. It's about making people feel empowered in realizing they hold just as many answers within. Release the pressure to know everything and delegate perfectly. Ask your team to share what they know. Wisdom is a collective. 💡

Leadership is hard! Its such a balancing act. They say the best leaders lead by example. They join the team, they encourage greatness, they call out successes, and they point out opportunities for improvement. They do their own work with the knowlege it will be looked at as the standard for performance. They embody the methods and approach for the team. They hold all members of the team to the standard they set. Getting in the trenches sets the expectation, and also gives you a chance to work with team members and help them understand how vital their role is. But of equal importance - and often in conflict with Leading by Example - is Empowerment and Trust. Great people love to to own problems and goals. They want the ball. And, after all, the more you can empower and the less you do the work, the faster and bigger you can scale. Its kind of the point. Balancing "Lead by Example" and "Empower the Team" is a real art - and its at the heart of leadership. Personally, I'm focused on doing both of these each day, and trying to find that perfect balance. And that balance needs to be different with each team member. Still working on this every day.

Leadership: SELF-AWARENESS Leadership is more than a title, it's a journey. A journey of growth, adaptation. A marathon, not a sprint. Our shared voyage. New team members shape our path. Adapting, refining comes next. Understanding, learning is key. It's crucial. Feedback fuels collective growth. Asking for visions, for thoughts. Self-awareness starts to bloom. We evolve. Exceptional leadership is an ongoing voyage. Paved by insights, aspirations. Guided by open hearts. For and by THE TEAM. ----------------------------- If you want to create self awareness ask YOUR TEAM. Even if they tell you, that you have done a terrible job! Do you agree?

"Authenticity is the cornerstone of effective leadership”. I’ve come to realize that true leadership is not about having all the answers but about being genuine and transparent with your team. Sharing my own challenges and uncertainties has opened up conversations that might never have happened otherwise. When your team sees you as human, they're more likely to trust you and share their own ideas and concerns.By being open about company goals, challenges, and even failures, I've noticed a remarkable increase in team engagement. People want to be part of a journey they understand and believe in.When team members feel seen and heard, they're more inclined to bring their best selves to work. This environment of mutual respect and understanding breeds creativity and innovation. As leaders, let's strive to create spaces where authenticity is celebrated, not stifled. Let's lead with our hearts as much as our heads. After all, it's not just about guiding others—it's about growing alongside them. What has authenticity in leadership taught you? I'd love to hear your thoughts and experiences! 💬
