This is a big week! My upcoming game, Trace Hunters, is participating in Steam Next Fest starting on June 10. I even launched my demo early so you can play it today from my Steam page. Leading up to Next Fest, I've been creating a *ton* of new content while also polishing up my demo build. Looking back, I have gotten so much faster at creating videos than just a couple months back. Can't wait to kick this thing off for real! If you're not a gamer, Next Fest is one of the biggest pre-launch events for games on Steam, the most popular PC game marketplace by a massive margin. It's one of a handful of opportunities for a game to greatly increase wishlist count before launch. Wishlists are not just an intent to purchase signal, but one of a handful ways you can notify players (Steam sends out automated email notifications).

The #videogameindustry is still reeling from the loss of many many excellent studios. But it's also a truly exciting time on Steam, the PC gaming platform that has probably changed #gamedevelopment and #gamepublishing more than any console or even any mobile device. I've seen the power of Steam first hand, working on Kerbal Space Program in Early Access, and have also spent considerable time working away from the platform on mobile titles and even working on a game that launched on Discord (remember that?!?). Steam is not perfect and if you're shooting to be one of the biggest games-as-a-service on the planet, Steam might not be for you. But if you're a smaller team or even a solo developer, it gives you a ticket into the arena. It allows for risk-taking that results in great games. It offers you the chance to really understand an audience and go all out in a singular direction that gives players great joy and value. So while our industry is shook at all the struggles we've had for the past year+, let's also celebrate the wins.

The cutest games from Wholesome Direct 2024 Despite its cozy appearance, Wholesome Direct 2024 is actually shaping up to be the most packed event of Summer Game Fest. The hour-long presentation featured more than 70 different games.
