📊 Earlier today CEO Kevin Mayne was a key speaker at the TAIPEI CYCLE Riding Towards Sustainability event held alongside Adam Gardiner (Rapha), Jacky Chen (BAS), Robert Wu (TBA) and Jonas Nilsson (Accell Group). During his speech Kevin Mayne highlighted that the cycling industry finds itself at the start of a new industrial revolution, and despite already being recognised as the most sustainable mode of transport and industry, there's a notable surge towards heightened sustainability. 📈 ♻ This is a perfect opportunity for the industry to further mature and professionalize. Kevin cited the example of product passports importance in enhancing transparency in supply chains, ensuring safety and traceability, and fostering shared knowledge for recycling, repairing, and innovation. 'Circular revolution': Transforming cycling into a more sustainable industry At TAIPEI CYCLE I ran into Thomas Hallam-Gravells from #GCN. We had an interesting chat about #sustainability in the #cycling industry, which resulted in this great article. We talked about #design: "We should really be #designing from a #user perspective. The user doesn't want a creaking bike, they don’t want to replace chains and chainrings and all sorts of other stuff, they just want a #bike that runs very long.” On how things are #moving: “And slowly but steadily, things are changing. I mean five years ago, there was no way I could get in contact with TAIPEI CYCLE or the #Taiwanese cycling industry, and now I get invited to run a #workshop here.” And the role of the Union Cycliste Internationale: “I would really like to encourage the UCI to say ‘we use the #propeloton as a platform for #innovation, on #sustainable and #circular #materials’. So, they could set up rules to say we’re going to raise the minimum weight limit from 6.8kg to say 8kg. There’s a lot of room for #experimenting with different materials, like #biobased composite materials, which are already out there, already being used in Formula 1 and in #sailing boats. Could you #imagine what would happen if you do have the space to start innovating on a new generation of materials and the UCI says you need to have at least 50% #recycled content or 50% #biobased materials, and all of the components on the bikes need to be properly #recyclable, so they don’t end up in a landfill or an incinerator, but can be brought back into the production process? Then there is the #durability part, so if you could limit the number of bikes that a team could use each year, like what happens in Formula One with the number of engines or tyres you can use in a race, it really would spark a wave of innovation towards making more durable products.” Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/ex_zi_Mr #tech #bicycles #apparel #circularrevolution Circular Cycling Shift Cycling Culture Play Sports Group

The Netherlands prides itself on its vibrant bicycle culture, but faces a shadowy challenge: bicycle theft. More than 700,000 bikes - 3%+ of all NL bikes - disappear each year, with daily thefts reaching alarming numbers in cities like Rotterdam and Amsterdam. Despite the scale, few thefts are reported, leading to a vicious cycle of depleting police resources, escalating insurance costs and the threat of bicycles becoming uninsurable. Clearly, the current approach to bike security and bike recovery is unsustainable. As mid-March approaches, a new initiative is on the horizon to tackle this problem head-on. Stay tuned for a change that is desperately needed to preserve our beloved bicycle culture. #BIKEBAZE #bikesafety #empowerrides #safecycling #communitydriven #innovatetogether #nomoretheft #ridewithconfidence #protectyourride #missiondriven #launchingsoon #followourjourney #netherlands #fietsen #fietsendief #fietsdiefstal #elektrischefiets #community #biketheft #biketheftprotection #biketheftprevention #cycle #comingsoon #staytuned #rotterdam #dontmissout #followthejourney #bikelife #sustainableliving #innovation #ecofriendly #rotterdamlife #cycling #cyclingtech #bikesafety #safety #follow #trending #explore #startup City of Rotterdam Erasmus Enterprise Erasmus Centre for Entrepreneurship Dries Dederen

The Belgian cycling 🚴♂️ economy: strong growth 📈 during the past years. TML investigated on behalf of FOD Mobiliteit en Vervoer / SPF Mobilité et Transports how cycling contributes to our national economy. What emerged? The Belgian cycling economy accounted for almost 1 billion euros and 17000 jobs in 2022 - and the growth potential is huge. ⤴️ Many growth opportunities: bike leasing, shared bike systems & bike logistics could almost double the value of the sector and create thousands of additional jobs. 👩👩👧👧 Cycling for all: cyclists shop more often and spend more, and workers who cycle are happier, healthier and more productive. 🚀Strong economic impact: the cycling economy accounts for almost 1 billion euros and more than 17,000 jobs. More than that, the cycling economy is growing three times faster than the rest of the economy. 👉 Read the full report on our website: https://lnkd.in/e9SHnath or read the full article on the FOD Mobiliteit en Vervoer / SPF Mobilité et Transports: https://lnkd.in/e9XRTaQ3 The report is the result of solid work & written pedal 🛞 power by my colleagues Rosanne Vanpée, bruno van zeebroeck, Evelyn De Wachter and Vincent Henrion. #cyclingeconomy #bikenomics #bikeleasing #cycleindustry
