Affordability will be one of the greatest opportunities over the next decade. - Demand is high - Building cost is high - Land cost is high - Permitting costs are high - Regulation is high - NIMBYism is high All of these are making it harder to increase supply and, in turn, making affordability an even tougher challenge. The issue? Wages WILL NOT increase at the same rate. So... How do you solve this issue? Do you solve it through modular or penalized construction? Do you solve it by deregulation? Do you solve it by slowing down immigration until we have caught up? I don't have the answer, but I will be trying to solve it. I see it as an incredible opportunity. Not only to help those who can't afford housing actually afford housing, but also a way to make incredible returns for investors.

Here's an interesting fact to start your day: Did you know that the most common type of small business in Australia is in the construction industry? 🏗️🇦🇺 Yes, nearly 17% of all small businesses are busy laying bricks, pouring concrete, and shaping the skyline of our cities and towns. This is a testament to the resilience, hard work, and entrepreneurial spirit that is deeply ingrained in our nation. Each construction project not only transforms landscapes but also creates jobs, fuels the economy, and adds character to our communities. So, next time when you see a construction site, remember - it represents more than just a building. It's a symbol of progress, growth, and the relentless spirit of Australian small businesses. Here's a big shout-out to all those in the construction industry, paving the way (quite literally!) for a stronger future. HOW TO SOLVE THE AUSTRALIAN HOUSING CRISIS! I was a 'Project Manager' on social housing in the Australian Central Desert, what did I learn? The vast expenditure on housing in remote Aboriginal housing is an exercise in extreme frustration. These programs are designed to leak like a sieve to the supporters of specific political entities. The suggestion is that these housing builds will allow locals to be trained and gain trades skills for the future. I found no local Aboriginals willing to train for three or four years to gain a trade qualification despite billions of dollars spent in the central desert region, not one. The programs last a few months to build and renovate existing dwellings, no where near long enough to gain a trade qualification. There was a requirement for 'Aboriginal and Torres Strait' islander participation. this was achieved by offering these jobs to Queensland and Southern States indigenous workers. Why are we not building a modular housing facility in Alice Springs? Australia could build three times the number of units and houses as a traditional build? Australia can only meet affordable and other housing requirements by going full steam for Modular and off-site construction as they are in other jurisdictions. We can never train or recruit the numbers of participants to conitinue to deliver housing with traditional trade techniques! https://lnkd.in/gtxXTEbj

Housing Construction: On The Rise in August! 🚧🏠 Great news from UK construction! We've observed a promising uptick in project starts and main contract awards in the housing sector for August 2024. The total value of residential projects commencing in the three months leading up to August reached an impressive £12.15 billion. This marks a significant increase compared to the preceding three months. However, it's not all upbeat. There's been a noticeable decline in detailed planning approvals, both against the previous quarter and last year. This suggests while more projects are starting, fewer are getting the green light at the planning stage. It's a trend worth keeping an eye on as it could impact future activity. We'd love to hear your thoughts! Have you seen similar trends in your area? Join the conversation and share your insights. Let's continue to grow and support the construction community together.
