For National Patient Participation Week, learn more about Every Step Matters – a new bespoke recovery model at Heatherwood Court Hospital co-produced with patients⬇️ #PatientParticipationWeek is all about shining a light on the value of patient engagement, communication, and involvement in healthcare decision-making. The Every Step Matters model was developed collaboratively with patients that we support at Heatherwood Court. Stepping down from a hospital setting to a community setting can be challenging; but our shared belief is that every single step towards recovery – no matter how small - is important. The model aims to identify the steps that each patient needs to take to transition to a community setting successfully, and develop Recovery Support Plans to achieve these steps. In collaboration with their MDT, one of the patients we support has created this presentation to explain how we deliver our Every Step Matters model. As we move forward, the emphasis will shift towards the implementation of this legislation and the establishment of necessary safeguards, all while prioritizing the freedom of choice for individuals facing terminal conditions. The public dialogue surrounding death and dying is poised to broaden, inviting a more nuanced understanding of these critical issues. It is imperative that the medical community adheres to the categorical imperative of doing no harm; however, it is equally essential to consider the principle of doing no further harm. As we navigate this complex terrain, we must ensure that the rights and dignities of all individuals are respected in the pursuit of compassionate care and autonomy in end-of-life decisions.
