The CQC have now moved onto a risk-based Single Assessment Framework. This means that the CQC are conducting inspections based on how risky a service is deemed to be. CQC determines the risk level for services in a variety of ways, including monitoring call activities. The CQC does not publicly share information regarding provider risk levels making it difficult for providers to plan for an inspection. Furthermore, all inspections are now unannounced, so providers are not given any time beforehand to prepare. We are sure you will agree that a CQC inspection has a huge effect on a healthcare business with a poor rating or enforcement action having serious detrimental consequences on patient and insurer confidence alike. “We were completely surprised by our CQC inspection. With no time to plan we were deeply hurt to receive our ‘inadequate’ rating with special measures applied to our service. We were losing £100,000 pcm of revenue until we met COMI. Within three months, we were re-inspected and our rating improved - we were able to re-commence surgical services thanks to COMI’s expert knowledge. We wouldn’t of been able to survive without COMI” - London Hair Transplant Clinic ☎ 020 3468 7041 📧 [email protected] 🌐 https://comihealthuk.com/ #CQC #Caresector #CQCInspection #healthcare #NHS #privatehealthcare

Here are our thoughts about a recent WSJ article: Hidden facility fees are a growing concern in healthcare. Here's a breakdown: Independent Doctors: Insurance reimburses a set fee (e.g., $300) that covers physician salary, physician assistant or NP salary, staff, and office space for a typical 30-45 minute visit. Hospital-Employed Doctors: Similar reimbursement for the physician fee as above, BUT hospitals add a separate "facility fee" for using their space, potentially doubling the total cost! This can significantly impact patients. In our practice, we see almost 2,000 new patients a year. Since our costs are roughly half of most surgeons' offices in the state, choosing independent practice can save payes roughly $400,000 - $600,000 annually! #healthcarecosts #transparency #herniasurgery What are the benefits of choosing an independent specialist? Cost-effective: Potentially lower overall costs for similar quality care. Focused Expertise: Independent specialists are often specialized, high-volume, and focused. This leads to in-depth knowledge and often better outcomes. Considering a specialist? Ask about their practice model! #independentpractice #patientcare #doctorsoflinkedin #pricetransparency #herniasurgery Check out this Wall Street Journal article for a deeper dive: https://lnkd.in/gDUc4SxC

The No Surprises Act, a significant consumer health legislation since the Affordable Care Act, has faced implementation challenges. Provisions protecting patients from unexpected out-of-network medical bills began in 2022, but the process to resolve payment disputes (IDR) has been delayed due to lawsuits and a higher volume of disputes than expected. A few providers, including major physician staffing firms like SCP Health, Team Health, and Radiology Partners, have filed a large number of these disputes. IDR was initially slowed by the complexity and volume of disputes, with the top three parties responsible for 58% of all disputes. #NoSurprisesAct #PaymentDisputes #IDRProcess #PatientRights #MedicalBills #HealthcareCosts #HealthcareProviders #PatientProtection

Utilizing physical restraints in a healthcare facility, especially in Intensive Care or Emergency Departments, is seemingly routine and often, almost an expectation. However, the use of restraints raises significant concerns regarding patient safety, particularly the risk of injury or death. Research has shown that physical and chemical restraints can lead to serious complications, including psychological trauma, extremity fractures or dislocations, wounds, falls, and in extreme cases, death. It’s crucial that healthcare professionals are adequately trained and possess the necessary competencies to apply and monitor restraints safely. In the United States, restraints are closely monitored by the Centers for Medicare And Medicaid (CMS). They have established strict guidelines that dictate how and when restraints can be applied. This includes attempting less-restrictive alternatives, regular assessments of the patient's condition, continuous monitoring while restraints are in place, procedures for reviewing and documenting their use, and de-escalating or discontinuing restraints as soon as possible. Healthcare facilities are often required to report incidents related to restraint use, allowing for ongoing oversight and evaluation of practices. Adhering to these regulations not only helps protect patient safety but also promotes a culture of accountability and quality care within healthcare systems. Do you have a case that involves the use of restraints and not sure where to begin?
