Before we were 7-Eleven, our stores were called Tote’m Ice Stores since customers could conveniently "tote" away their purchases. On this day in 1931, an ad in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram announced that seven Tote’m Ice Stores were open and offering customers ice as well as an assortment of refrigerated products at convenient locations throughout the city. Ninety-three years later, we’re still the first choice for convenience. Anytime, anywhere!

“We have to make it easier for our customers to get a cup of coffee.” A simple statement, that requires execution across multiple areas: bringing back the condiment bar; adding more comfortable seating; putting in place “common sense guardrails” on mobile orders; offering ceramic mugs (for “for here” customers); and beefing up staffing levels. All to meet the business objective of customer reducing wait times to less than four minutes. On the 4th day of Christmas, my true Yellow Dog gave to me - An inventory system for my "Restail" tree! What's Restail? That's our mashup for hospitality venues that provide both F&B and Retail offerings to their clients. The base may be a coffee, sandwich, meat, or alcohol concept and then they add retail. It's experiential hospitality which will continue to grow in popularity. My favorite spots in town always have F&B + (fill in the blank)! Who doesn't like shopping after a few drinks? Micros was the king of these concepts back in the day with their ability to handle retail workflows (2-Way Menu Item add/edit, sell & return in the same transaction, UPC code scanning, item lookup) in their POS. It baffles me why any POS wouldn't support the above...... It easily adds a 15% addressable market to your sales team.

Merch - I'm just back from 2+ weeks in the US. I'm still amazed every time by the amount of branded merch for sale. Literally every single coffee shop, restaurant, retail outlet all have their own range of branded merchandise. Can you imagine that here in the UK? Walking into your local coffee shop and a whole wall covered in t-shirts, mugs, caps etc with their logo on for sale? I get Disney and the main attractions etc selling all their branded items but I'm amazed every time I see it. Have you ever succumbed to a branded item from an independent shop? My wife seems to collect Starbucks cups from different countries (and US States!). I mean, having that here in the UK would be great for us in terms of supply but can't imagine we'd get the same response from potential purchasers. What do you think?
