If Jay Inslee ran a public company, he would be fired. If Jay Inslee ran a small business, he would be bankrupt. Jay Inslee was elected in 2012 and served 12 years as Governor. According to Wikipedia, "his focus has been on climate change, education, and criminal justice reform." Over that period, Washington's budget/spending expanded nearly 138% while population increased 13%--that's 110% more budget $'s/citizen. In 2022, Washington's legislature spent the entirety of our $19 BILLION budget surplus (including the rainy-day fund) leaving no reserves for 2024 So much money spent. No discernable metrics to track progress. The climate, schools, infrastructure, and crime are all far worse off. "Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results" In his final parting shot as Governor, he's proposing a 10% increase in B&O tax to business owners (which will increase prices to consumers) and a wealth tax that will result in business owners (generating the jobs that pay these rapidly increasing taxes) leaving the state. We do not have an income problem. We have a leadership, spending, & accountability problem in Washington.

Why do people continuously elect these charlatans to public office? Where does it say that elected officials must concentrate their time and our money on cultural & social nonsense, climate and income inequality when what we need is pothole repair, sensible budgeting and public safety? You get what you vote for pilgrims.

I used to live in Seattle. You have a Communist problem in Washington. And your elections are corrupt. Until the mail in ballots are eliminated, there will be a Communist supermajority forever. See California for reference.

Truly an embarrassing and ineffective tenure. Twelve years of going backwards.

Don't people ever get tired of anointing the wealthy as "job creators"? Jobs are created by consumers buying stuff. The wealthy use their money to buy boats. Or spaceships.

He and his administration have seriously messed up Washington State. They manufacture and exacerbate easily addressed problems, they use ‘emergency rights’ to reject voters’ will, they refuse to audit major programs - the homeless funding in Washington is astronomical, has made no progress, has a dozen agencies involved and they cannot report where the money goes. And that is just the tip of the iceberg. They passed a policy that they can redirect earmarked funds with impunity - so they remove funding for critical services like fire, police, etc. to justify raising more taxes. They instituted an income tax - violating the state charter, but because they have a super majority in the Supreme Court, they just redefined ‘income’. Our property tax has more than doubled in 9 years. A poster child for irresponsible spending.

Well said, Collin! The business community needs to prioritize its efforts to properly message how damaging these tax proposals would be to attracting new business investment in Washington and retaining jobs. Fortunately, I do believe that our incoming Governor will be a (fingers crossed) more pragmatic and sensible leader. However, there are a lot of elected officials in the legislature that need to recognize the need for a different long-term approach to managing our state. An endless cycle of new taxes is not the answer. The Washington Roundtable, Seattle Chamber of Commerce, and other pro-business organizations are already starting to think about messaging to Olympia. Feel free to reach out and support their efforts!

So tired of tax and spend in Washington. Big business is leaving in droves so now small business is the new target. Washington needs to reduce spending and tighten up the budget. Small businesses do this everyday.

Not many governors would oversee the implosion of their quasi-529 plan (GET) while standard 529s flourished, the institution of a doomed LTC tax that no other state is dumb enough to install, the armed takeover of multiple blocks of their major city, and introduction of multiple taxes- at least one of which violates state law- to help drive away successful people and companies. But Inslee has...
