A year on! Well! a year has passed with AJ Bell and making a move to an In-House Recruiter. I have to say it’s been a fantastic year. I have learnt some valuable lessons though and I thought I would pass on just a few of the things I have learned. 1) Do not think In-House recruitment will be easy or a touch! It simply isn’t the case. You cannot pick and choose your vacancies and go for the low hanging fruit to hit your targets while eyeing the big placement fee that takes longer to fill while looking to top up that commission check. Every vacancy is important In-House and you cannot walk away because it’s tough to fill. 2) Be prepared to be honest. You can sit and read this and say to yourself you are always honest but let’s face it there are always “white lies” in recruitment. No matter who you are. In-House you have to be honest as your client/hiring manager will simply walk up to your desk or call you on “teams”. 3) Don’t think you know everything about recruitment. To be fair personally I have never done this and I love to listen to others and how they go about things. I have learnt some really good stuff over the last year and yes been able to pass out some, advise when asked. 4) In-House recruiters are failed recruiters. I have heard this lots over the years from agency recruiters and sometimes from Directors I have worked with. Being honest I had a bit of this mentality too. So, so not the case the team I work with are some of the hardest working recruiters I have ever worked with. On reflection and I think I have said it in a previous post, for me making the shift from agency to internal came just at the right time. It was a gamble (probably for me and AJ Bell so kudos to Paula Wharrier for giving a veteran a punt) but one that paid off. Let’s go for year number 2! #hiring #recruitment #team #work
Time flies! 370 external placements and 5% agency fill rate, not too shabby a financial year 😊 Hats off to you on the tech placements!
