Is Pursuing PHR-CA a Smart Move for HR Careers in California? Answers: https://lnkd.in/guiTMp8e #HRCertifications #PHRCA #JobMarketInsights Hey everyone! 🌟 I'm reaching out to get some thoughts and insights regarding my decision to pursue the PHR-CA in California. Lately, I've noticed that job listings around here seem to favor SHRM-CP or just the regular PHR instead. It’s got me questioning if going for the PHR-CA was the right choice. Here’s where I’m at: Local Job Landscape: While I’m looking for local opportunities, I haven't seen much demand for the PHR-CA specifically. Most jobs seem to list SHRM-CP or PHR as their preferred qualifications. Staying in CA: Since I’m not planning to move anytime soon, I thought the PHR-CA would help me understand the unique HR landscapes in California better than the federal info would. Comparative Value: I haven’t found much info on how PHR stacks up against PHR-CA. Would getting the PHR-CA make it easier to transition to the standard PHR, or would that be overkill for someone like me with a degree in HR and two years of experience? SHRM Decision: My choice to go with PHR over others came after the SHRM DEI anno...

Emily Ryder Perlmeter, Xiaohan Zhang, and I explore how employers think about short-term credentials, specifically what kind of candidates they look for and whether they reward credential earners with a boost in wages. How Did I Pass My PHR Exam After Struggling Twice? Answers: https://lnkd.in/geW2SVcC #PHR #PHRsuccess #HRcommunity #ExamTips Hey everyone! 🎉 I just wanted to share my excitement – I took my PHR exam for the second time yesterday and guess what? I PASSED! Can you believe it? I was totally shocked and honestly, I nearly hit the floor crying tears of joy. 😭✨ Now, let's talk about how nerve-wracking this exam can be. It’s filled with so many tricky questions that make you go, “What the heck?!” But somehow, I made it through. If you've taken the PHR exam, you know exactly what I mean! One question that really stumped me was about an employee sleeping on the job while still getting paid. I was torn between whether it fell under the FLSA (Fair Labor Standards Act) or the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act). In the end, I chose ADA, but I wasn’t fully confident in my choice. 🤔 Here are a few pain points I faced during the exam: Confusing questions: Many scenarios can overlap, making it tough to pinpoint the right answer. This can lead to second-guessing yourself. Pressure to perform: Knowing how much is riding on this can add stress, which doesn’t help when you’re try...

Less that two weeks to go.... I am finally going for my CHRL designation. and after intense studying since June of this year, we're in the last home stretch for the knowledge exam. I've re-read all my e-textbooks, taken the prep course, done the practice exams, and studied for likely close to 150 hours. Taking this exam after being out of my HR program for 5+ years had its good and bad elements. I've interacted with this content more than I could imagine. I also was much more rusty than I anticipated. What has been rewarding is seeing myself get back to that high-performance HR partner level I always wanted to be. Perhaps I just have unreasonably high expectations of myself, but it's been great to have that feeling of really maximizing my HR skill and prowess again. The exam is on the 25th, and I do expect I'll pass. It's not a guarantee, as nothing is. I could have a bad day, or a good one. I could get just the right questions, or the wrong ones. Those are things I can't control. Even after this I still have to do the law exam, get my experience validated, etc., but all stuff that I know I can do and feels less like the mountain of the knowledge exam. At this point, I have to manifest it, feel confident going in, and keep myself refreshed on the knowledge I know and not over-study. It's been a multi-year journey getting here. Now, I can just do my best, and appreciate all the support I have had along the way. Thank you to all the people who supported me getting to this point. I avoided this out of severe anxiety for years. Just doing the exam, for me, is already a big win. Wish me good luck!

We're back at it with part 4 of our blog series on our experience with the SPHR exam: Accommodations and Exam Day. While I was traveling I didn't post about parts 3 and 2, which you can find in the comments below. I found there was both too much and not enough information about what to expect on exam day (too much that didn't help-- like outdated information, and not enough about process and details). And, coauthor AnnE had a harder time than she should have requesting accommodations. Here's our version of what to expect. If you've taken the exam already: how did your experience on Exam Day differ? https://lnkd.in/gHfsPuiB

#HR #CareerChange #California #HRCertification Hey everyone! 😊 I recently made the big move from Massachusetts to California, and let me tell you, stepping into the HR world here has been quite the challenge for me. I bring along six years of HR experience, especially in the biotech and pharma sectors, but I’ve hit some roadblocks in my job search. It’s tough out there! Some recruiters have suggested that getting my PHRca certification could make a difference. Have any of you invested in it? I’d love to hear your thoughts! I’m already studying for my SHRM certification (exam’s coming up in December), so I totally get the value of having these credentials. But with costs stacking up—around $500 for the application and another $500 for study materials—it’s not a small commitment, right? On the flip side, if I choose not to go this route, I’m curious if you all have other suggestions for seminars, workshops, or resources that could help me boost my marketability. Here are some point... Is PHRca Certification Essential for HR Success in California? Answers: https://lnkd.in/g6wc7wwY
