Unrelated: it's Giving Tuesday, and if you want a solid, nonpartisan charity to give to, I'm going to plug the Preeclampsia Foundation My wife is due with our 2nd on January 2nd, although I think (and hope, for tax purposes) she's probably going to be early and give birth this month. Our first pregnancy, she had preeclampsia (and postpartum preeclampsia) - basically a disease where a pregnant woman's blood pressure rises scarily high. It has a higher mortality rate than it should, and, to my knowledge, it's one of those instances where people just aren't aware of it. It's one of those things where simply being aware of it does in fact save lives. The foundation does a lot of really great work educating, giving blood pressure monitors to pregnant women, working on getting all preeclampsia-related devices and medicine to be covered by insurance, and doing great work in the realm of preeclampsia research. It's also 99% in Charity Navigator - you can't really get much better here. https://preeclampsia.org/

Join us on August 24th for the Preeclampsia Foundation's Promise Walk! This event is more than just a walk; it’s a commitment to raising awareness and funds for #preeclampsia research. Why is this important? Preeclampsia, a serious #pregnancy complication, significantly elevates the risk of long-term health issues for women. 👉 Did you know that women who have experienced preeclampsia are three to four times more likely to develop high blood pressure later in life? 😑 They also face double the risk of heart disease and stroke and are four times more likely to suffer a heart attack within the first decade #postpartum ⚠ By joining the Promise Walk, you are helping to fund critical research and support programs that strive to reduce these risks and improve outcomes for mothers and babies. Let’s walk together for a healthier, safer future. Register today, donate, and support this crucial cause 🤩 Join our team! https://lnkd.in/gDXFVdaU Visit PromiseWalk.org to learn more and get involved. #PromiseWalk #PreeclampsiaAwareness #HeartHealth #SupportResearch 🤩 Preeclampsia Foundation

Molina Healthcare is stepping up to improve maternal health outcomes for Black women and infants in Chicago. - $250,000 Donation: Molina, through its MolinaCares Accord program, donated to the Chicago South Side Birth Center (CSSBC). - MolinaCares Illinois Health Equity Initiative: This donation is part of a larger $5 million initiative to address healthcare inequities in underserved communities. - Addressing Disparities: Black women in Illinois experience disproportionately high rates of maternal morbidity. The CSSBC provides culturally-centered care to improve birth outcomes. Why is this important? - Lack of prenatal care: 14.2% of Illinois expectant mothers lack adequate prenatal care. - Maternity care deserts: 34.3% of Illinois counties lack obstetric hospitals, birth centers, or providers. - Community-based solutions: Birth centers like CSSBC can reduce preterm births by 26%. One of our Senior Associates, Amy Milner, has worked with our charity partner Cerebra (Charity) to publish an insightful article into intrauterine growth restriction and neurological injury. Intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR), also known as fetal growth restriction (FGR), occurs when a baby does not grow properly during pregnancy due to placental insufficiency. This can lead to chronic fetal hypoxia and long-term disabilities. Find out more about this condition and the support available 👇 https://lnkd.in/en2pEcUg #ChangingLives #IUGR #NeurologialInjury
