Truth is a fundamental value in science because it forms the foundation upon which all theories, research, and discoveries are built. Science relies on the pursuit of the most objective and reliable understanding of reality, which is only possible when research is conducted truthfully. Without truth, science loses its credibility, and knowledge becomes incomplete or flawed. Truth also allows for the verification of research results, the falsification of false hypotheses, and the refinement of theories. Furthermore, it is through the pursuit of truth that science can contribute to the advancement of technology, medicine, or solving global issues, as it is based on evidence and facts that are essential for making informed decisions in reality. Truth in science is not only about discovery but also adhering to ethical principles and transparency, which ensures the reliability and trustworthiness of research outcomes. #Innovation | 𝗢𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗪𝗮𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗟𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁-𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗲 | A groundbreaking advancement in light-controlled medicine has been achieved by researchers at the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) in collaboration with ETH Zürich and EPFL. Led by Oliver Tejero, Prof. Dr. Gebhard F. X. Schertler, Matthew Rodrigues, and Ching-Ju Tsai, the team has successfully elucidated the structure of specific photoreceptors, paving the way for controlling cellular activities using light. Their project, Switchable rhodOpsins in Life Sciences (SOL), has been recognized with a prestigious ERC grant. The research involved identifying a suitable rhodopsin and modifying it to remain stable in its active state for examination. This breakthrough could significantly enhance our understanding of organ functions and open up new therapeutic applications. PSI's commitment to innovation and education is evident, with a quarter of its staff dedicated to training future scientific leaders, aligning their priorities with cutting-edge research initiatives. 👉 Learn more >> https://lnkd.in/d2hyjSU4 👉 Original publication >> https://lnkd.in/d2xdV6Sx 🇨🇭 Follow #ScienceSwitzerland for the latest news and emerging trends on Swiss science, technology, education, and innovation >> swissinnovation.org Follow us >> Science-Switzerland #Science | #Education | #Research | #Innovation

Interactive Cohort Studies session during the ESCP conference 2024 You can watch #surgical techniques and read #research papers #online but (and it is a big but) you can only be part of #scientific debate in professional meetings To this end, the cohort studies team has worked out an interactive session during the ESCP conference 2024. In this session, the audience will help in designing the future ESCP cohort #studies. There are two reasons why you should not miss this session: Firstly, the ESCP research will be designed by you, performed with your #collaboration to attain results that will serve your patients. Secondly, you will get the chance to be enlightened by discussions on the research process from #idea to product. Do not miss this chance. The placebo effect is a fascinating area of science. And the 2024 winners of the Ig Nobel Prize in Medicine have made it even more interesting. The research group for demonstrated that fake medicine that causes painful side-effects can be more effective in patients than fake medicine that does not cause painful side-effects. Remember that old saying "if it hurts, it's working." Read more here: https://lnkd.in/gW9QVz-y #placebo #ignobelprize #ignobel #science

Like bubbles in the market, science can experience unsustainable hype cycles. With the amazing Donghyun Kang, Robert S. Danziger, and Jalees Rehman, our new @NatureHumBehav paper (https://rdcu.be/d10OE) just out reveals how limited diffusion of scientific ideas—when research stays trapped within small, elite circles—predicts dramatic collapses in scientific utility. We analyzed millions of biomedical papers to show that robust science spreads widely across diverse research communities, while work that remains concentrated is *much* more likely to burst. The implications? Science needs diverse, disconnected evaluators to spot the difference between genuine breakthroughs and fragile bubbles. And we can use the social diffusion signature to accelerate bubble bursts! #scienceofscience #innovation #scienceofsuccess
