Women-focused mental health is not one-size-fits-all. There are many different factors that result in how a woman makes sense of and approaches her mental wellbeing, nuanced by ethnic, cultural, socioeconomic, and traumatic experiences. Yet despite these differences, there are many shared themes within women’s mental health across the world, such as stigma, lack of resources for treatment, and shared risk factors for mental illness. As providers, we have an opportunity to be inclusive of and sensitive to female patients with different world views, especially of the mind-body connection, which is more representative of how most of the world makes sense of mental illness. Every now and then you may wonder, Where did the time go? Whether mystified at how quickly an afternoon slipped away or reflecting on years gone by at lightning speed, you’ve probably experienced periodic sensations of lost time. Yet 44% of Americans feel they’ve lost time in their lives due to a known culprit: poor mental health. Among people diagnosed with depression and/or anxiety, this percentage nearly doubles to 78%. Interesting note: “The survey relied on respondents to self-report having been diagnosed with depression or anxiety by a medical professional. While polling included mental health screening instruments—the Patient Health Questionnaire-2 (PHQ-2) for depression and the Generalized Anxiety Disorder-2 (GAD-2) questionnaire for anxiety—it’s unclear what types of these disorders respondents had.” Looking forwad to sharing even more of our work with employers internationally on leveraging our Kintsugi Voice AI to help drive more subjectivity, stratification and better alternative for helping capture employers or patients suffering from mental health. #employerhealth #mentalhealth #depression https://lnkd.in/eEe-eGYQ

The Sapien Labs’ fourth annual report reveals an enduring global decline in mental well-being since the onset of the pandemic. The key trend from this year’s data is that the dramatic decline in mental wellbeing that occurred between 2019 and 2020 and continued into 2021 through the COVID-19 pandemic, continues to persist with no sign of recovery. This is why we continue to push forward with the clinical development of RE104; this world needs new treatment options for mental health that are going to bend this very disappointing curve.

Really loved exploring this piece for Psychology Today. Mental health does not exist in a vacuum but is instead deeply connected to intersecting social, institutional, and cultural factors. When we leave the onus of healing solely on the individual, how does it obscure the interconnected role societal structures play in our mental health? We see many other cultures view individual suffering as a call for collective healing, rather than something to address only at a personal level. Can some aspects of individual distress be seen as part of a broader societal narrative of unresolved pain? This perspective shifts the question from “How can individuals manage mental health issues?” to “How can society create environments that prevent them?” https://lnkd.in/gWZGTEY6
